This is the basic pattern for knitting a custom-sized Wooly Wonder soaker in the yarn of your choice. It is the
pattern we use in the class "Knit the Chunky Wonder."
This pattern will help you make your very own custom-sized soaker. Our fully-illustrated in-depth beginner-
friendly slightly wordy instructions take you step-by-step through a bunch of math and a variety of different
waistband and leg cuff styles.
Materials:
-- any weight hand wash or dry-clean 100% wool yarn-- four or five ounces should get you through any sized soaker.
What are some of our favorites? Delicious yarns in gorgeous colorways can be found at
Wooly Wonders by Nada,
Dashing
Dachs, and
Mosaic Moon. The most basic, widely available yarn for
beginners who wish to dye their own is Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool, found at major craft chains like Joann's and
Michael's.
-- 12" or 16" circular needle appropriate for your yarn weight (Newborn or preemie sized soakers will require
double points, two circs or a long circ, depending on the method you choose for knitting a small circumference
item.) Additionally, you may want a smaller gauge needle if you are knitting a ribbed waistband.
-- if you desire knit leg cuffs: double-pointed needles, one long circ or two circulars depending on the method you
choose for knitting a small circumference item
-- crochet hook to match your yarn weight
-- stitch markers
-- scissors
-- tape measure
-- tapestry needle
