Default Need some scarf guidance

As hard as it is for me to believe, I have never made a scarf. What I need is some help locating a fairly quick scarf pattern that I can do a mother/daughter set for a friend who has a sick (5 year old) little girl. It can be fancy, doesn't have to be functional or it can be functional too... whatever, as long as it's pretty and fast!

Thank you in advance! I am truly scarf inept.

Oh... and if you happen to have yarn recs too that would rock!

The dropped yarnover scarf. Use soft snuggly merino!

LOL. I love that place, I got some AWESOME gauntlets there.

I was just browsing the CP scarf... I think I might do that one. I love Marnie anyway so it will be a double good karma scarf.

I love marnie's scarf pattern. It is so fun to knit and makes a really beautiful and functional garment. My mom loves hers

I've done two of the IBK scarves, and they are very pretty!
(if you're not opposed to JoAnn's, they have a wool/cotton mix yarn that is SUPER soft. . . and looks very nice when knit into this scarf!)
