View Full Version : *New* Dharma Dye Coop (8/27)

Well, we seem to have a lot of interest going for another dye coop. I'd be happy to conduct a coop for Dharma Trading company acid dyes (they're Jaquard brand). These were the ones we did last time, and I really enjoy them.
Here's the info:
The 1/2oz. size is normally $4.95, if we order 10 or more they become $3.95.
I prefer to order mine by the 8oz size and split it. Except for the most expensive colors, this is usually much cheaper! (And you get more for the money.)
Post what colors you would like to order, and what size. If you're willing to split a larger size with someone, put that in your post too. I'll keep a spreadsheet of info going on who has ordered what. If several people order the same colors in the small size, I'll post to see if you all would like to split the larger size, along with the cost.
We'll split the shipping to me (last time it was $1.60 per order) and I will ship to you however you prefer. As far as splitting goes, we can order plastic canisters for an additional $0.50.

I would like to do this, but I first have some questions....
With this dye can you use it in the same manner as doing KA dyeing?
Where are you located, so I can figure "possible" shipping from you to me?
When would the order be placed?
Thanks! :)

I checked out the link and these are the colors I'd like to get. IF someone wants to split them I would love that, it would be much more cost effective that way. BUt i will do 1/2oz if that is all I can get.

Miss Tammy,
Time: I can either place the order this coming Wednesday(9/1) or a week from Tuesday (9/7). I'm out of town Thurs through Monday for SIL's wedding. If we have tighter time restrictions I might be able to place while I'm there, but would prefer not to.
My zip code is 50311 (Des Moines, IA) First Class shipping was about $2 per order, last time. If you have a large order, it will be more. Priority is $3.85. You can calculate at UPS or USPS sites.
Finally, it works the same as KA dyeing. Both for painting & pot method. You'll want to use separate pots/pans for the acid dyes than the ones you use for food, though. I had like 4 extra stainless steel pots around (from my wedding 2 1/2 yrs ago) that I don't use, so they're now on "dye duty". I'll try to dig up a link to a good dye article I found on using the acid dyes.
The dyes last a long time! I used 1/2t. to make up a dye solution (My solution is 1/2t, to 2C of water & I further dilute it while dyeing), and dyed about 6oz of Fisherman's with it - with some leftover. You can make up your dye solution & store it for a long time (year +). Mine is in a cleaned out salsa jar at the moment. Then it's really handy for next time. The only other thing you need is vinegar.
The acid dyes exhaust really well, in like 1/4 of the time it takes to exhaust KA or Wiltons. It always runs clear, too. I really like using them. I think they bleed less, too!

I just want to add that I am going out of town tomorrow night and will return on Sept 9. I will have internet access so there shouldn't be a problem w/ me keeping on top of this and paying. But if I seem slow or anything, please chalk it up to my parents' slow internet connection!

Let me know if you would like to split. I may be ordering Scarlet (3), Emerald (3) and sky blue (3) but still haven't decided. The number in parens would be the number ordered. I'd like to spit, if possible.

I am all for splitting in whatever way works best for everyone. especially considering that if we asplit we can get at least 2-3 times the dyes for such a small increase in price

Just wanted to nose in and say that I have tried a LOT of their colors and love most of them, however, I had to add blue to get the navy to be navy and not purple, and the chestnut was NOT chestnut--it was some icky, purplish, sort of puky color. For chestnut, I would just get their regular brown (nice color!) and add some red. 8)

I went ahead and sticky-d this and then will unstick it once it closes.
When are we ordering?
Has anyone used pumpkin orange? is it a true pumpkin, or does it need to be doctored up any?
TIA! I am needing to get some pumpkin colors dyed up, and wanted to get the dyes ordered.

Go look at the Harvest Pumpkin in the gallery. It's dyed pumpkin orange. It's pretty close - a yellowy orange. You could get it darker if you wanted, mine is on the lighter side.
Tell me when you want to order. I'll figure totals...

The pumpkin orange is a really nice muted orange. Definitely not your bright, rainbow-y orange. I really like it.
Salmon and periwinkle were good too....the only one I absolutely hated was the "chestnut" and maybe they made a mistake? I have tried most of their colors :pezfrog Psst--stay away from the chartreuse--unless you need a little light in the middle of the night to change your baby by! :two

you know what color would be perfect for the pants I want to make? The brown in your mocha pants... Is that the brown you are talking about? Very earthy.
Im going to make a friend's son some fall pants for his birthday(he was a thanksgiving baby) and I am going to do brown, red, orange, and cream(natural wool). And *try* to embellish with a pumpkin or cornucopia

Julie, you have 8 colors at the 1/2 oz size for 3.95 each.
Then you have the following colors:
s grey
sapphire b
crimson
periwinkle
purple
burgundy
yellow sun
These are going to be split from the larger, 8oz size. You can look at the above posts to see how they're split, and the prices. Unlike the 1/2oz size, the larger sizes price varies by color.
