Well...I just have had such a hard time with Madeleine in regards to diaper rashes. Her latest one was so bad it had blistered, then scabbed/crusted and I was worried it would break open into ulcers. I had to put her in disposables and use Boudreaux's Buttpaste layered on real thick, which seems to be working and she is healing.

I think her last rash was triggered by chocolate, but can't be sure. However, when I look up diaper rashes online it seems like the location of her rash is more from her being in a wet/soiled diaper for too long. I know this will happen at night when she sleeps and this makes sense as she woke up with the bad rash.

I found that I could not use anything cloth up against her skin as the wetness at night would rash her up. I even would change her in the middle of the night while she was sleeping. Then, I switched to Fuzzi Bunz which I thought was wisking the wetness away. However with her last rash a few days ago, I cannot put her in the fuzzi bunz now either.

So, now I have her in disposables, which give her a different type of rash, which is more of a heat rash. I don't know what to do. She is healing now, so I will keep her in the disposables until she heals, but then what? Is there anything that I can lay in her diaper that will make a barrier between pee and her skin?

Is there any type of diaper cream or powder that I can use with cloth diapers? A few times I tried bag balm, but I noticed that makes the diapers stink. I bought some Hug-a-dub-dub that is suppose to help with diaper rashes and be fine for cloth diapers, but hasn't worked and just made her rash worse.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Have you ruled out thrush or some kind of detergent/bacteria build up on the nappies? You could try stripping them while she's not wearing them anyway - you just run them through several wash cycles with no detergent until there are no bubbles in the water that comes out. I found fleece used to make my dd much more prone to rashes so don't use it now (although I think she'd be better now her skin has toughened up a lot).

Bourette silk liners are meant to be great for healing rashes and you could keep using the nappies then.

After that I think I'm all out of ideas. I hope she gets better soon, it's awful when your baby has a sore bum :(.

I don't have a lot of rash advice -and I think it is hard to figure out without seeing them.....

But I do my kids always got yeasty rashes ---and conventional creams were not recommended. My ped. said to avoid any zinc oxide (which is in a lot of the diaper rash ointments) ZO locks in moistur- and that feeds yeast. But it sounds like you don't think it is a yeasty rash......

Could there be some new food she is eating that is making her urine more acidic? Might be just enough more acidic that at night that extra time in a diaper is affecting her?? (Orange juice rashed my kids up---took quite some time to figure - and my dd was rashy at BOTH ends and the doctor didn't get it- a friend from LLL suggested the OJ )

Fleece is what should wick moisture away....maybe once she is healed that would work.....

Good luck with it and let us know what you figure out.,

Well, if it isn't a yeast or thrush rash it's probably something she is eating. My younger two kids always had rash problems and my son's were the worst. He didn't get them too often but when he got them it seemed like it took a very long time for them to go away. Something that always worked for me was using a hair dryer on low heat to dry off the bum when changing a diaper (his pediatrician recommended this). It really helps dry the rash up. Then I'd use Desitin diaper cream and that worked really well. I've tried the more natural kinds but this has always worked the best and never caused a problem with my cloth diapers. And I have Fuzzi Bunz for night time as well but when he has a rash I'll use them during the day also to keep the wetness away. Obviously if they make her rashes worse you wouldn't want to do that.
I hope you find some kind of solution that works for you!!

Orange juice and tomatos used to totally thrash my oldest dd's bum. In regards to all the butt creams (ZO or not) I have always understood that you should never put any cream on unless the skin is toally dry.

If you think it might be yeast --- lotrimin (the athletes foot stuff) will clear it really fast ....and it also possible to have a secondary bacterical infection w/the rash.....(we had a rash where we alternated between lotrimin and a antibacterial with each diaper change)

My absolute favorite 'butt cream' is Weleda baby cream (they have a diaper cream with zinc oxide - but I was always afraid to use it)

I don't think it is yeast because the ZO type cream is making it look tons better. Also, when I was reading about yeast and thrush is it likes to be in the folds of skin and inside areas and it isn't. In fact, she has no rash or redness in any inside folds or around the bum. It is just these blistery spots that are in areas where the diaper touches or presses agains like the back of her legs/butt and the front of her above her private area, but below the belly button. They started out as little clear blisters with red around them and now have scabbed. Crazy thing was if it wasn't just limited to the diaper region, I would be thinking chicken pox or something like that.

I did do a lot of HOT water soaks on the diapers to remove stuff that was in them. If it was sunny here I would put them in the sun.

It isn't OJ...could be tomatoes. I actually had to eliminate most juice from her diet as this makes the rash flare, especially anything apples. Darn, I have been trying to avoid taking her to the doctor over it, but since I am switching doctors soon (insurance stuff) I might as well take her just to say good bye to my doctor. Thank you all for the advice.

OK nak, but rash king lives in our house. Here is my secret recipe

Mylanta mix with diaper rash cream and Lotramin.

The mylanta neutralizes the drc heals and the lotramin helps incase there are yeastie beasties, AND Z's and Nat's thrush rashes always looked like that.

The rash is gone and everything is all healed. This is good news and I never had to take her to the doctor. Course I have no answers and am unsure if I should put her back into cloth diapers.
