I got this crazy inspiration last night and was up all night thinking about it.

What I want to research is ease in garment design and also what yarns to use in what situations.

I'm going to go out to the grocer's this afternoon and then I'll probably come home and Google my brains out. Does anyone have specific book recommendations that might help? Perhaps I can purge the local library of their resources, or ask for Santa to bring me something special.

I am not sure if this fits the bill perfectly, but it might come close! LAst week I saw a book in Borders called Designing knitwear- I'll bet that would work for you!

Does DK talk about sizing and how to adapt patterns to a wide variety of sizes?

are you looking for something to help you with ease on a sweater for a specific (individual) person, or for working ease over a pattern with several sizes? If it's the former, Sweater Deisng in Plain English (Maggi Rhigetti) is a great one! I don't remembr if DK addresses several sizes (as in writing a pattern) and I've found that my best info for grading over several sizes comes not from any knitting book but from garment grading books with sewing emphasis (like this (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1563673193/qid=1134951361/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/104-8050188-3124714?s=books&v=glance&n=283155)

As far as what yarns in what situations - I'm not quite sure what you mean there, if you can explain a bit more I'm sure I've got a book to recommend ;) I'm a knitting book whore, LOL!

Well, I'm first going to be working the pattern for me. I honestly don't know that I have enough of a command of knitting yet that this will even work out the way I'm envisioning, but should it, I may consider writing it for others...But that's an awfully long way off at this point. :LOL

As for yarns, well, I guess I just need to get a better understanding of how different yarns work for different garment types and how they'll hang against the body. I'm thinking that I'll probably be looking for two different yarns to combine together. One that will have stretch, drape, and durability, that will also (hopfully) be worn comfortably in any season. The second needs to be airy, light, open. I'm considering a wool and then a mohair blend, but I'd like to be sure that this is something that will work for the kind of garment I'm thinking of before I go getting heavily invested in this. ;)
