Does DH "do" cloth too??

I tried to do cloth with Brayden, but dh can't use pins (shakes when he's nervous and was scared to death he'd stab him!) and I caved in. I didn't know anything beyond cpfs then. When I found out I was pg I knew I would love to try again. Then Brayden got a terrible rash that turned into raw skin like busted blisters. It was soooo pitiful I would cry. Took him out of the sposies as soon as I thought of it. One of those duh moments. We've never looked back. DH is fantastic about cding and he has his snappi so he can put the dipes on. We don't have a sprayer yet, but he tried to dunk and it just didn't happen. Gagged the whole time...didn't complain a bit, but gagged the whole time. I told him to just leave it in the toilet if I wasn't home or was busy and I'd take care of it later  My favorite part is making up the cute diapers. So much better than a plain old white sposie. Dunking is def my least favorite part.

I shall answer my own questions too! :)
I decided to use cloth on my new baby while I was pregnant. I stay home now and with only one income cost savings is good. :) My (now 3) year old was still wearing diapers so I decided to get some for him to see if I could stomach it! It's really not as big a deal as I thought it would be.
I have been CDing my newborn for 11 weeks now and working on getting the 3 year old in underwear. He's doing good during the daytime, unless he gets distracted.
DH is a convert now. At first he always put our newborn in sposies. We have a pack of disposables that I bought a month ago and we haven't used any! Fortunately, we're having a family wedding and since my baby will not be in my care we'll do sposies or else he may grow out of them before we use them!! (mental note, don't open the next pack) LOL
We are mainly a CPF/Wrap family but we do have some MEOS and Wonderoos (which I love). We're growing the family of soakers in the house... back to knitting!! :)

hi! I decided to use cloth when Maya was 3 months old. we lived in Italy and there wasn't a whole lot available. When I came to the states for a visit, a friend showed me her cloth, and I found the resourses online to help me use cloth overseas.
My husband joined in right away, and now we use disposables only when flying across the ocean (those bathrooms are too small to have too many things in your hands. it's too easy to shove a dirty disposie in the trash!)

We decided to cd about 6 months ago. I always thought I couldnt CD my boy because hes got such rash prone skin. I've been better informed since then and have been collecting all types of dipes and covers, so far cpf's and wool soakers are my favorite. for an infant, I would imagine that fitteds would hold that runny bf poo in better.
We starting cd'ing Anwyn when she was around 4-4.5 mo. I noticed those gel balls all over her. I mean ALL OVER her, in places they had no business being. It disgusted me, and I was determined to switch to cloth.
I asked a lot of questions, did a lot of reading, bought a lot of diapers (too many!), and finally settled on SugarPeas fitteds, First Class Baby AIOs and fitteds, and Righteous Baby fitteds. I also like to use my Fuzzi Bunz pockets.
At home, I usually don't bother with a cover; diaper changes are pretty regular. Dh LOVES using cloth on Anwyn, and he tells his coworkers and friends at church all about cd'ing. :love He has no problems changing her diapers, but the dirty ones do get left in the sink for me to spray off. :irked

I switched when Brody was about 8 months. For some reason I was up late surfing the web and starting looking at CDs. I still can't remember why. Anyway, I thought they were so cute. :LOL That's why I wanted to switch. Dh has been against it all the way, but I wouldn't go back to yuckies. Although we do keep them for when dh is watching the boys.
I have all kinds of diapers. One thing all the time would bother me. I really like premium indian pf's bikini twisted and snappied on. I Love FCB fitteds and my own side snap fitteds and AIO's.
I almost always have a soaker, soaker shorts, or soaker pants on Brody b/c otherwise he takes his diapers off all the time. Mostly right after he pees or poops, but sometimes just b/c. When he has a soaker on he has to come tell me, which I much prefer to searching for his hidden "treasures".

No babe yet, but (pardon the pun :cd)...
The decision just fits - I'm a doula, natural childbirth & attachment parenting proponent, I was raised primarily in cloth as was my brother, I was breastfed for two years and am planning on doing the same (or whatever my future babe and I work out together).... Why not use cloth? And I've seen what happens when people with limited funds use disposables: only two diaper changes over 24 hours (not saying that always happens, or even usually, but... ewwwwwww!).
I imagine my least favorite part (from dealing with other people's cloth diap'd babes) will be dealing with feces - I have the, uh, "most highly evolved" gag reflex of anyone I know. :goodgrief Not that I can't, but it's not exactly fun for me.
As for DHs, mine is positively scornful of and doesn't really understand guys who can't (or won't) use cloth. He's changed his nephew's sposies and our friend's cloth when we were babysitting, and definitely prefers the latter. And he does all the laundry (the machines are in the very damp very low-ceilinged very spider-filled basement), and has already decided that getting a service would be too expensive to do for long so... Yea, I think he'll be a "does" cloth. :D
And the biggest reason? Making soakers is fun!!! :crazy :cheer :wool :knit :roll :banana
(Making diapers and AIOs is fun too... but not something I can do in front of the tv. ;))

I have a pretty strong gag reflex, too. But it's just not the same when it's your own kids. Trust me, as someone who's done both yuckies and cloth diapers, poop in a yuckie diaper is way nastier. It REEKS so much more. Ickkkkk....

It never occurred to me to cloth diaper when I was pregnant with Andrew. I had only heard of pins and rubber pants...no thanks!
Luckily I was introduced to other AP-type mamas by my doula. She and a few of the other AP-type mamas cloth diapered, including Patti (dandelions2)! They were fanatical about them and loved to show them off. I became intrigued, but felt overwhelmed, because I got confused by all the new terminology. Once I got the hang of the terminology, I felt overwhelmed by all the choices (different fabrics, different diapers, different WAHMs), not to mention the fact that dh was against it. He had heard from clients about wives who wanted to CD, spent a TON of money and then quit after a month. I told him to tell his clients to send us those unused dipes! :brow Plus, he was grossed out by the idea of poop in the wash machine.
When Andrew was 5 months old, I took the plunge and never looked back. We still have the bag of 'sposies from when we quit a year ago. :LOL After a couple of months with WAHM made dipes, I started to make my own. They just looked sooo easy to make and I already knew how to sew. I also joined the sewingdiapers Yahoo group as it started up, and that's where I "met" Davina!
My favorite part is showing them off, especially ones I made. ;) I love it when people ooh and ahh over them, giving me a chance to promote cloth.
My least favorite part is cleaning up difficult poop. Formed poop is no problem, plops right into the toilet. BF poop is no problem, goes right into the washer. It's the loose all over the diaper poop that I really don't want to throw in the washer, but don't want to mess with either that I dislike. It's a good thing Andrew LOVES bananas!

you know its funny, I never realized how much worse baby poop smells when its contained within a disposable diaper. My boy is eating solids now, about once or twice a day and His poo is definitely stinkier...but in the disposables its just putrid. I wonder why that is.......

It stinks no matter what, I am reconsidering the intro to solids ewwww...
The sposies, I don't know, maybe its a chemical reaction? I always thought the cloth was worse, but my first wore sposies all the time.

Am I the only one who didn't notice a huge difference in poop with solids? Granted, he only gets a little bit every couple days, but still. His poop's been getting thicker and stinkier for the past month or two and we only started solids last week. I think his digestive system has been developing and that's what's affecting things.
About how you decided to use cloth and where you learned all the tricks from? What made you decide to do it? What's your favorite part? Least favorite?
I decided after reading 1,000 AP sites and hearing about. I :love it. I learned all my tricks from many forums--MDC, a delphi one and more...and reading people's cloth sites. Many, many sites. Then it was just a matter of trial and error.
Favorite---the soft, sweet cloth coverd bum.
Least? I have no least fave part. I really love all aspects of it very much :D
Does DH "do" cloth too??
You better believe it. He changes as many as I do. As long as they are in order, he can figure it out!! So do my parents. :love
Used cloth since DS (28 months) was 2 weeks old (bought them before he was born but you know how it is with first born). Was happy with Imse Vimse flannelettes with wool covers just for night times (pul in the day) til he was 1 yr then he learned to move too much - went for pad folded terries in wraps. Suddenly went on a nappy buying bender when I was pregnant with DD (14 weeks) and bought all the nappies on ebay LOL. Inspired DH to start an online nappy shop (had to sell some of my stash). DH changes DS but not DD and definitely doesn't dunk (my worst bit too). Despite the fact that I've got about 40 shaped of various types I still prefer to use a snappied prefold and a wool cover on DD - DS is too chubby to snappi prefolds so mostly gets boy fold in pul wrap - I do put him in a fitted if I'm expecting a poop (saves on wraps). Only started to knit my own covers a few months ago so have more for dd than ds (quicker to knit - I have knitted for years but am keen on instant gratification so I like to knit for babies).

I started cd'ing dd when she was about 10 months old. I had always wanted to cd but when I was pregnant I tried doing internet searches and was totally overwhelmed by the cd'ing world. Then I had a good and trusted friend tell me that she had priced it all out and cloth was way more expensive. :shrug So I went the easy route and did sposies.
Somehow I literally stumbled upon the MDC community one night of late night insomniac surfing and the rest is history! If not for MDC poor babe would be in sposies still and I wouldn't have a hobby! ;)
Dh is totally into cloth now, more than I ever expected because he was a difficult convert. We started small, cd'ing part time for about a month in order to convince him that it wasn't just a passing fad for me and wasn't so difficult that I'd give it up.
Now we use Wonderoos (dh's fave, my least fave), prefolds, Muttaqins (my fave) and a few other various fitteds. I am slowly moving into the world of wool and loving it.
My favourite thing is probably the simplicity of cloth and the warm fuzzies it gives me to know that I am doing my best for dd. Least favourite has to be trying to find the best diaper out there and ending up with a bunch of less than excellent diapers in the process.
