do I need one of those circle things that pulls the fabric (or in this case wool, well, I guess it's fabric now...anyways) taut so you can embroider on it. Or are those no-nos or not needed or I am screwed without one?

I've never used 1 for this purpose (but I do for regular embroidery and quilting) but I think Susan does.

That would be a hoop, lol and it can make it tighter if you need that

If you're just doing a small area, you don't need one for duplicate stitch.

it's about 3 by 3 inches. I think I'll be good.

I use an embroidery hoop for larger areas, but I've done it without one and it turned out OK. I think it helps keep your tension more even if you use one.

I'm going to have to get one anyway, and theycost, what? a dollar? I'll try without it since I can't go until tomoorw night to pick one up and if it sucks I'll pull it apart and try again with the hoop. Thanks!

Make sure you get a wood one, the metal ones are too tight to get around the fabric and they can rust.
