What is a good yarn to use? Fisherman's wool? I want my soaker to be soft but not too thin. Good for daytime though. What are your yarn suggestions? DO tell! :)

I use Fisherman's wool. It's fairly nice - great for dying, but not the softest. The price certainly is right, though. It holds up well to use & washing. I've heard great things about Cascade 220. I've been wanting to get some but haven't taken the plunge yet!

Ok, so I mispelled dyeing in the above post, but am not responsible for the stars or swearing. I was quite confused when I read my post, & it contained the uh, "correction"

I use Fisherman's all the time. I know of some who use Merino, but I have also heard it gets pretty pilly. I have used Bartlett wool before and, while I like it, it is a little rougher than I would like.
I have some custom dyed 2-ply yarn from www.fabriconnection.com that is knitting up really soft - it feels so different from the fisherman's that I've used. The 2-ply is thicker than fisherman's, but it isn't bulky. You can get it in natural, too, at $4.50 for a 112g/226m skein, or $6 for a custom dye.
I have some Plymouth Galway that is amazingly soft, but I haven't knit it up yet.
I've heard great things about Plymouth Outback Wool and Cascade Ecological Wool, and I'm chomping at the bit to get a hold of some.

Oh I am so sorry, but I am laughing my butt off!! I set the forums up to change "dy ing" to *DYEING DAMMIT" automatically. I'm sorry you got nabbed but that is darn funny. (do it again!)
If you want to edit it out... go ahead. :D

Gotta love the "spell check" function here.
I was glad someone had heard good things about the Outback wool I have a skein that I just had to have after seeing it in the LYS. It is beautiful and feels really nice.
I have knitted up some swatches to try and figure out what needle size I want to use...better hurry or I won't get the soaker made before dd potty trains.

LOL! dying
I'm trying to find an online store that carries both the Plymouth Outback wool and the Cascade Ecological wool. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to have to pay shipping from two stores, but I will if it comes down to it. My LYSs don't carry much wool at all; one of them doesn't carry any wool! :crying:
I will be in Atlanta in a couple of weeks - any LYS suggestions for there?

i have been scouting out wool yarn prices, and man some places are really expensive. i use, almost exclusively, the 2 and 3 ply yarn from jess at www.fabriconnection.com you cannot beat her price. the wool is organic and soft as can be. i own 2 soakers made from it, and i think they have held up well. i haven't received any complaints from customers about the yarn either. i have tried fishermans, but some people thought it was a little itchy, and too thin? i disagree, but who am i to judge their opinions.
i would do an on line search for wool yarn carrying stores, and try to find one that way. if you just search for the brand you might not find a store that carries both. good luck

I have been wanting to get some yarn from her.... what is the size on it... 3 oz or 4 oz skein? that is one thing she doesn't have posted on her site.

If you click on the pic of the yarn, you'll come to a screen that does list the weight and length. These come in 4oz. skeins.

Yeah, I spent about 2.5 hours looking online last night for a store that carries both yarns, and I've put in my time on other days, too. I'm the queen of internet searching, so I figured if I couldn't find it, then it probably doesn't exist, but I was hoping I was wrong! LOL I found one store that looks like they carry both, but they don't have an on-line store so I sent off an email. I just prefer to buy online immediately... The stores I emailed in Atlanta don't carry either of the yarns. :(
I did find the brand Jess carries for a little cheaper, but I'm waiting to hear back from the store on shipping. Truthfully, though, Jess's service is awesome, and I probably won't quibble over a few cents. Jess does some really pretty colorways, too. Maybe I'll just mosey on over and place an order w/ her. :D

I ordered from Jess' supplier, although I didn't know they were until after I ordered. 1 lb of Lopi ran me about $10 shipping to the states. The savings was not worth it in my opinion because it took 15 days from ordering to arrival. When we ordered from Jess for Wooly101 she was ALOT faster, so I'll order straight from her next time!

Actually, it was more expensive from supplier because of shipping. Darn it!!! Lesson learned, go to Jess!!! :)
