Maybe a children's toy or garment?

A toy or garment for kids sounds good to me for a knit-along. :bigups:

No dress for the little boy? Too bad. Anything unisex we can do?
They have some cute socks for ME on knitty.com

This hat is cute....but maybe small for other babes?

Edited to say that I'm a raving lunatic - sizing up to a year - but still not big enough for a toddler.

I'm SO into the tart hat! On the one hand, I could do something like that easily with crochet, but to :knit it??? I'm either too afraid to try it, or too interested not to!
What do you think, would it be doable for a beginner? (One who, admittedly, likes challenges. :sly: )

Here's the skill level according to the site:
Tired of scarves? Ready for something more challenging? Try these.
Fun things with zing. A twist, even.
(This is the next level after total beginner)

Well, there are 5 of us who would like to do the knit-a-long... so now we need to decide on the pattern.
A couple of suggestions have been made: what would you like to do? :?:

I would like to join. I like the tart hat, and the smock, too. I am easy.

you can do one of those girly things without me. I will catch up next time. I have enough to do getting the website up. :D ox pam :bighug

My :two : It's all about the tart hat! :thumb
And Pam, although I'm totally sympathetic with not having the time (work on that class! :brow ), how is the hat a girly thing?? Granted, I'm unusually relaxed when it comes to gender roles (especially for kids under 3yo), but that hat would be TOTALLY CUTE on a little boy!
Any of you out there with a boy in mind and the time, I say go for it! :cheer

I want to do simple sweaters for the boys... don't know if that would fit in the knitalong... but most kids wear sweaters. There's a pattern out there for a top-down raglan that's custom sized. I'm nursing so I'll dig it up later if someone doesn't have it.

Knitty.com has several gender neutral sweater patterns for little ones too. (This is my new favorite site for free patterns) We could do a sweater instead or start two KALs.

I think I know which pattern you are talking about...I am just finishing up a top down sweater for my son.
I would like to do another though.....
And starting one now gives people time to finish before the child needs it.
Of course this may be more project than we want to tackle as a first one...maybe the tart hat first and then the sweater? Or I suppose there isn't a LAW saying we couldn't have two knit along projects is there???????? :?:

Maybe we should go ahead with the tart hat to start with, and then move onto a sweater. Here's my reasons:
1.) Then Pamela can join in once the website is 'up & running'
2.) We'de be starting with a smaller project.
But then again, there is no reason we can't have two or 10 or more projects going at once. My vote is to start on the hat (so this doesn't sit forever & never get going) & then move on from there. But that's just my :two

A sweater as a second project is a PERFECT idea. I have a couple other things to work on first and by the time the hat is done Pam and I can chime in to knit for our boys... I can also ponder what kind of yarn to use!!
I have some extra Lion Brand HomeSpun from an afghan that's the perfect color... but I don't know if it'd make a good sweater yarn or not. We live in the midwest, so I don't need it to be super warm. How exciting, I've never made a sweater... something to look forward to!!

Ooh, count me in on the knit-a-long, especially if you go with the hat! Get a nice blue and that would be great for a boy. I've been looking for a non-soaker small project and that would be lots of fun. I can't vote apparently, but pretend I did :)

anyone else having trouble voting.
What size is the hat again?

I voted, I think...well, it won't let me vote now but there were 5 before I think I might have voted and there are 5 now...
so either I didn't vote and I'm crazy (possible) or I did and it didn't count me, but regardless, I can't. :)
Nighty Pam! :0)

Sorry about the voting no longer working - I set it to last for a limited time. Next time I'll just leave it open indefinitey Everyone is welcome whether they vote or not.
The hat size ranges from 0 - 18 months.
It looks like most everyone would like to start with the tart hat. Should we give ourselves the next week or so to find our yarn & then get started?

why don't you go ahead and post it as a new topic with the link for the pattern, a start date, etc... :dance how exciting!
