View Full Version : Anyone else think this rise is a tad big?

I think I must have done something wrong...
I was making an LTK soaker for Andrew, size large, and was thinking it was because I am a slow knitter that it was taking me sooooo long. Turns out, I made a soaker about twice as long as I was supposed to. The waist and leg holes seem fine, but that rise WHOA! The rise is measuring 28 freakin' inches!!!
My gauge is right, and I followed the pattern exactly. Can anyone tell me what newbie error I might have made?

Looks like I get to practice frogging! I'll have to try the knitty.com technique to get back to a better size for Andrew.

Okay... how frustrating for you, but for me... sorry, can't stop
If it helps i just put leg cuffs on my soaker and they're two different sizes?? It looks like it will be a super cute soaker, hope you get it figured out.

That rise is over 3/4 of a yard long! Did you double it somehow? Love how your yarn knit up!

Um, did you measure from the top of the wasitband or the bottom of the ribbing, LOL? That's the only thing I can think of, unless your row gague is way off.

Yeah, I have been laughing, too. It was either that or cry... :violin
From the pattern for a large, I measured 7 1/2" from the base of the ribbing before starting the legs decreases. Should that have been 7 1/2" *total* added to the rise, meaning 3.5" in the front and 4" down the back? ...and measured from the cast on, not the base of the ribbing?
...maybe I could add shoulder straps and turn it into a onsie?

should have been 7.5 from the top of the ribbing, at the cast on ;) (thus why it says "from the cast on edge" :LOL) Don't feel bad, you aren't the first to do it, though!

That would change my rise from 28" to 25"...instead of the 18" it is supposed to be...
My row gauge is 30rows / 4".
My pattern doesn't say "from the cast on edge." Just says to insert a short row (with directions on how to do that), then continue for 71/2". Should I look for an updated pattern?

Knit yourself two icords, and attach them and then you can have some laderhausen (I don't even know if that is how that is spelled).
I LOVE that yarn.
Sorry... can't help you. But love the yarn. :pink

Amy, I did something like that with my first LTK soaker too. I was measuring from the bottom too, and decided eventually that it was too tall so I stopped, but not soon enough.
Shoot, I can't find the picture right now.

Oh, I'm so sorry you had to work extra long only to discover how off that rise was! I like the lederhosen idea...

Oh, BTW ... don't feel too bad. I just put the soaker i finished on DS, king of the short rise, and it's up about 2" in front and 1-1.5" in back... higher than I like. :)

You guys are great!!! :mwah I think instead of practicing my :pezfrog :pezfrog :pezfrog I will make some straps and let him wear them over a shirt. :) As long as the shirt doesn't touch the diaper, I should be okay for double duty.
Andrew can be a colorful fireman for Halloween this year.

I am :LOL at the leiderhosen idea! Love it!!!
Hmm, how long ago did you download the pattern? it's had that update for ages, I'm oretty sure. Anyway, PM me your email and I'll send you the new link to download the most current update. Still don't get why the rise is off, though, cause it shouldn't be that high. Did you gauge change significantly when you went from knitting in the round to knitting back and forth?
ETA: the *functional* rise (that is, the are below the drawstring) is what should be 18", so the total rise (from top front to top back) is probably more like 20 or 21"

Ja, Oktoberfest here we come!!!
Okay, so my rise is 25", and if I drop 2 more (measure from cast on), that brings me down to 23". So maybe my row gauge *did* change when I went to back and forth (and I'm only 2" off). I'll go measure.
I will also PM you. Thank you very much! :mwah
