I'm on my second project with short rows, and it's looking much better. I understand the concept and I am wrapping the stitches and turning correctly.

My problem is that I can't figure out how to insert the needle into the wrap and then into the stitch in such a way that it doesn't either add an extra stitch or look somewhat funky, if passable.

I knit to the place where the wrapped stitch is. All the directions I've seen say to insert the needle up "into" the wrap (and I cannot find an illustration of exactly how you do this anywhere in my books or online). I know which way is up of course, but I can't quite get how you move from inserting into the wrap to inserting into the stitch. What should this look like on your needle, like a ktog? And things really seem to go to hell when it comes to the wrap on the purl side.

Does anyone know what the heck I am talking about. Can you direct me to an online reference that provides a good illustration?

I think this is the video that shows you how to do it. It's different than others I've seen. Slipping the wrap stitch OFF of the right needle after knitting that stitch is the thing I always forget to do.

Ahh, the video. :) Karla - make sure to pull the other stitch up and over so you don't add a stitch. If you think about it, you are just eliminating a hole by lifting that loose area (the wrapped stitch) up one row. It make perfect sense if you think about it (and things have to maje sense to me) :) It is soooo much easier to see it done. If it looks strange right when you do it, it will even out as you knit more of your piece.

HTH!

Thank you both-- the video and the explanation both helped a lot. What about the wrap on the purl side? What I tried doing was just knitting the stitch normally (so the wrap stays around the stitch), but then knitting the wrap off on the knit side.

Is that what I should be doing?
