If you are searching for small lots of yarn for soakers, take a look at the knitswap group at yahoo groups:

I just signed up last week and there are lots of people selling small lots of wool yarn for pretty decent prices (you have to look carefully though - I've seen some prices that seem pretty high). I haven't personally bought anything there, but they do maintain a feedback system (like MDC) so it should be fairly "safe".
