Yes, it can be done. But it doesn't look anywhere NEAR as pretty as knit in-the-round, because you can see where the round starts and stops, because me 'n Shana haven't figured out how to disguise the join yet.

You use a very long flexible afghan hook. I found mine at Michaels, but you can get them online, too.

You do your base chain, then pull up your loops for your first row. Then you pull the work down to the other end of the hook, and do your return-row backwards, joining up the ends.

It's hard to explain without pictures - sorry. But anyway, it's really hard to see where to start and stop, and hard to know whether to draw through 1 or 2 loops for your first return stitch.....I keep forgetting, or it's not obvious. Anyway, so far my joins look crappy. But it *is* doable, and maybe you'll be able to figure out how to disguise the join!

Thanks Mamas

Hmm, maybe I should just try it flat and do a seam. :) I have this nature wool that I love and tried to knit with it but it's too thin so I crocheted with it and when it pulls it leaves holes so I thought the afghan stitch would work.

Yes, It's possible, and looks great! You can even do Moebius scarves a la Bordhi in the round. All you need is any kind of double-ended hook - and you work with two balls of yarn.

There's an explanation in Norwegian here, with pictures - near the bottom of the page:

http://www.solvor.no/teknikker.htm

Pictures of tunisianned-in-the-round caps, mittens, bags and socks here:

I'm not sure if I can explain the basic technique in English, but I'll try:

You cast on as usual, but instead of going back and picking up stitches, you start at the beginning of your cast-on row, making a circle (if you're moebiusing, you make a half-twist here). Pick up as many stitches as you're comfortable with, TURN THE WHOLE THING AROUND, and, starting with a new ball of yarn, cast off the stitches until you have 3 stitches left. Repeat, and keep repeating.

Hope this helps, if not, don't hesitate to ask.
