K, I still need to work on tension and recognizing stitches and gauge, BUT I've gotten increasing down, and figured out the edge thing that was holding me up. Yay! :ily
Now, when I buy a pattern to crochet in the round, how do you mark the beg. of the round in crochet??? Do I need a new set of sts markers for crochet??

I've only done it once but the beginning of every round was very noticable. I'm sure that one of the more experience crocheters out there can give you a better explanation.

silly hookers! of course you can crochet in the round!
davina, they make st markers for crochet. they're like little hooks to hook onto the first st of the round. you can get them pretty much anywhere.

In the round??? Absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And you can use stitch markers - a piece of yarn, a diaper pin - etc to mark!! :)

You don't always have to join the beginning of every round. You can just keep crocheting around in a spiral until you need to finish off. To keep stripes straight though, you need to join. *shrug* It is noticable, but not horribly so.

AND..if you want really cute, cheap markers...I bought bracelet charms at Walmart for $.96-$1.34 each...they each have a lobster claw on them, so they are easy to use.
I make the Dandelion Dreamers soakers, shorts and pants...they are all great patterns, and Patti has done a wonderful job with the directions.

Remember those old earrings that you love, but for some reason only can find one, lost the other one years ago? You know, ones with the "french hook" for a backing? Don't throw them away. Take them out of your jewelry box and use them as stitch markers in crochet. Just slip the hook part around the first stitch of the round and then give it a little squeeze to kind of close the gap onto the yarn.
If you are crocheting in the round and need to join and then work up into the next round you mark the first stitch of the round. Then you count each stitch across and making sure you don't add an extra stitch. WARNING...it is very easy to crochet into the slip stitch in the round, when you slip stitch into the first stitch in the round it looks like two stitches, but should be counted as one. I think this is the biggest mistakes newbies make when they crochet in the round.
Also, you can do what Amy said and just crochet in a big spiral, without joining. I think you would still want to mark the beginning of the round, somewhere on your work so you get an idea of when you are starting the next row.
I have never used Patti's pattern, but i have seen the soakers in action on her little munchkin, and they look very nice.
