View Full Version : Easy (free?) crochet soaker pattern?

I'm having sooo much fun making soakers/shorties/longies for my babe I thought I'd also venture into the world of crochet. I keep hearing that it's easy...So, where can I find an easy but nice looking and functional crochet soaker pattern? Free would be great because I'm not crazy about putting out money for a pattern that I'm not sure about. Thanks!

I don't know how easy it is. I haven't done it. If you join the Yahoo wool soaker group there are several women working on that now. Also, there are quite a few more crochet soakers that they all can recommend such as Bean's soaker. Pamela is the listmom and I'm the moderator so we can vouch for the group, hehehe :)

I made one for my dd before she was born and it was one of my favorites. Unfortunately in my sleep deprived new mommy days I threw it into the washer and dryer with the dipes :roll: I really want to make another one for the new babe.

I wish, LOL. I would love a pair of crochet shorts for bed time, nice and thick. It also makes thinner yarn more useable :) Big sigh, I think it is hard. I guess I just wasn't cut out to be a hooker ;)

I find it easy and I'm primarily a knitter too. Just do some simple practice squares in the basic stitches to get used to not increasing stitches when you're not supposed to (ask me why I tell you this lol). There really are only a few basic stitches and everything else is a variation on that just like knitting :D.

Crochet was easier to teach myself. As far as easier, that is really subjective. Everyone is different. You can't drop stitches on accident, but you have to tear back to your mistake instead of dropping stitches down to fix it and working the stitch back up.

I taught myself to crochet with the Leisure Arts booklet called something like Learn to Crochet. I got my copy from Wallie World (please no flaming :) ).

I self taught myself knitting and crochet with books and learning to crochet from a book was MUCH MUCH easier.

The stitchguide.com videos are awesome - that is totally what I need.
I did my first crocheting last night and today :thumb I was doing the LTK Hybrid Rib for the first time and did a crochet edging on the leg cuffs. Just simple single crochets but it's a start right!? ;)
