View Full Version : My project just got ruined

I'm knitting the ribbing on a new soaker and I always have trouble getting the ribbing to look even. So I'm right in the middle of the ribbing, and the yarn in my skein gets funky and then there's this huge knot! It's like they came to the end of the yarn, tied another piece to it, didn't twist it for a yard or so, and then it gets back normal again. I have so much trouble keeping things even, I don't think starting a new strand of yarn in the middle of my ribbing is going to help. Maybe I should just go to bed and think about it tomorrow.

I feel your frustration there. I have a top where I hit a knot and before I could finish the round I hit another knot!!! :(
In your boat I would go ahead and start a new yarn (well take the knot out of the yarn) You should be able to tighten up any unevenness when you weave the end back in.
The only other choice you have is to tear all the ribbing out....but that is no guarantee that you would get through the rib without hitting another knot!
And working through and leaving the knot just isn't my idea of pretty and the knots always seem to find their way to the front of the work.
Good luck and let us know what you decided after "sleeping" on it.

I decided to keep going with it this morning, and then I worked about 8 rows past the ribbing before I realized I hadn't changed to my larger needles. There were a couple of other things I wasn't happy with as well, so I ended up ripping the entire thing out. It is now sitting on a pile on my kitchen table. Then I started a newborn size soaker (I was working on a large) with different yarn. I'll get back to that other one later. I just wanted to make something small so I could have some instant gratification, KWIM?

I too have forgotten to switch needles. I have also been known to halfway switch them--- When working a soaker flat, I will switch to the bigger needle but forget to pick up the second big needle for the next row!!! Of course I ususally notice the difference quickly.
Good luck with the larger soaker. Really soakers don't take long to knit anyway so the large won't take you too much longer ---- assuming you don't run into any more knots or forget to change the needle.
My project is at a stand still as I can't get gauge with my needles...and can't find my needle sizer to identify the next size smaller needle to see if that will work.

I just gave up on the magic loop for now..I may jsut go and buy some 12"circ's and see if they will do the job??? Its all too complex for me to gather in my head right now anyways.
I started a soaker for my 2 year old around 4 this morning! And, needless to say, somehow, I twisted my work!!! I finished the ribbing, was also for the first time doing an increase, adding another color, and also changing my needle size(that I can do).
I was hoping that maybe by transferring to the new needles, it would somehow straighten out, ya right! Is there anything I can do short of tearing the whole thing out???? This would really stink, cause I had to sort of guess and hope I had the increases correct by using the increase calculator.

bind it off and make it into a moebius scarf for one of your little ones.
A moebius scarf is knit with a twist so that it will lie flat on your chest.
Here is a link to a picture of one.

I know of no way to "fix" this mistake short of ripping it out and starting over. Sorry!

Thats really cute!!! Except I did'nt think it would look ok,seeing that it was ribbing I did and only that pretty much. I tore it out :(
Waiting for my patience to gather and will start up once again, I still don't understand how it happened.. I'm always making sure all my stitches are facing the right direction...well, I'll really be watching it even more now!!
