I've made a couple of pairs of shorts for the kids with the pattern from www.dandeliondreamers.com (excellent pattern for those who don't have it), but I'd like to make more of a crotch, like you get with knitted pants. Anyone have ideas how to go about it for crochet?

Thank you! :)

Ask Patti, I know she's helped someone with that before. :)

I've made tons of crocheted pants with crotch shaping. I've even made a diamond gusset like the knitted gansey. The simplest (don't know if you're looking for simplest or not) thing I've done is when you get to the point where you would divide for legs, just go back and forth for several rows, 5 to 10 probably, right in the middle (crotch) area, maybe 2 or 3 inches across, and then divide for the legs and slip stitch the flap onto the back when the legs are done. I've never had any pulling at the seams, and the fit (for us anyway) is much better than with no crotch shaping. Once I started using short rows on the crocheted pants, along with the crotch shaping and ribbed waist, I got a great fit I just love.
