Hi all!

Would anyone like to join me, please???:)

I'm just starting mine - I'm using HPY bulky in the "dusty rose" colorway. Knitting on size 11, cuz I'm lazy and I don't care about gauge.

I will, but I have to wait on the yarn :)

Ooh, that's what I want to use next, Pamela.

Cass and Amy, what yarns are you planning to use?

Ok, so I got all the way to the second section and realized I had been doing it totally wrong. I had read it to do the kbl, k1,kbl on the PURL rows too. Oops. What is wrong with me brain today???

Frogged it and am restarting...grrr....

I am on the straight section of my second one...

I want to do one, too! I want to do a mini clapotis, though. Anyone know where I can get the specs for a mini? I did a quick Google this morning and found lots of blog pics, but no hard numbers.

Have you seen this stuff...
http://www.knitpicks.com/yarns/yarn_Display.aspx?itemid=5420112

It is a lighter weight so the folks who've used it say to double the yarn....I think 4 skeins maybe five is enough......

I think you need the silk to get the right effect though.

I think you might have to do some math for yourself..

Here is the blurb from the end of the pattern that tells how to make it bigger or smaller....Really you just need a tape measure or the measurements you are looking to achieve.
1. Work Set-up Rows as for scarf.

2. Work Increase Rows until piece is desired width. (Measure width along right-hand side of triangle, with even-numbered side facing.) Work Increase Rows 1-6 once more before proceeding to Straight Rows.

3. Work Straight Rows until piece is desired length. (Measure length along left-hand side of piece, with even-numbered side facing.)

4. Work Decrease Rows as necessary until 23 sts rem. Work Decrease Rows 1-10 once more. Work Final Rows.

So, I'm up to the second set of increases. I'm finding the pattern so easy, its sort of meditative. I likey!

I never noticed the conversion stuff either...but now that I have it I am going to use it to make smaller ones for my kids..Miniclaps...

Oh I found some other really cool looking yarn here

I'll join you. I am doing mine in the Andromeda yarn that I bought from Theresa at LTK. I got the Elijah colorway which I like, I picked the colors mainly because those colors look good up near my face whereas the darker reds and deep colors that I am drawn to, do not, especially in the subzero temps around here when my face gets all red and windburned!!

I have one more repeat to do in the increase rows, then I will start the straight rows.

I am definitely going to order some of the Shimmer from Knitpicks and make a mini clap for my mom and for my Aunt as Christmas gifts. At that price I cannot resist!!

I knew who you were asking....Since I don't have the yarn for my shimmer one yet- I can't get suggestions on how many skeins to get....I am just going to have to take a guess at it I suppose...

I am eager to hear how much Noro one needs.

Lisa - I'm having a similar issue. I'm on the increases, and I keep ending up with like, 2 extra stitches before the kfb. Why? How? I have no idea. It's been tossed in the corner for 2 days now, cause I have no clue what's going on.

Update:

I took some ibuprofen and sat down to figure out my problem with extra stitches. I wasn't putting my yarn to the back after I purled the first stich of the even rows. Duh!!! That is what you get for knitting with a raging headache I guess. I finally got to drop my first stitch so I was happy. I showed dh but I don't think he fully understood the battle I'd just won.

I placed an order for the Shimmer yarn to make 2 mini claps and I only ordered 3 hanks for each mini clap. I was a dork and tried to convert the yards to the original yarn on the pattern. Maybe it will be so "mini" that my mom and aunt can use it as a headscarf?? Crap! IT's too late now to fix my order.

I bought the Grape Hyacinth and the stained glass colorways. I had only a dollar more to spend to get free shipping so I ordered the Denise Interchangeable needles LOL. I am so sick of running to the store every time I need a needle.

pmcgary
07-13-2005, 06:44 AM
I read over at MDC that knitter's were making them on size 5s with 2 skeins so you should be okay.

I am going to order mine today I hope...I think I am getting 6 of the stained glass and then 2 each of the colors my girls want...the touquoise one and the one pink one......which the names escape me now....

Oh, that yo after the purl is something else I do pretty frequently...I wonder if that is MY current row problem?

I got my Shimmer yarn from Knitpicks today in the mail. Talk about quick shipping!! The colorways I got, Grape Hyacyinth and Stained Glass are really pretty and bright. They are also really super soft.

They are pretty thin being lace weight so I hope it works for the mini claps I want to make as gifts! I am definitely going to double the yarn.

Ugh, that is totally confusing to me. I am the type of person who needs to follow specific directions for a pattern and I just CANNOT stray from those :shake

I finished mine. I loved making it. But..... IT LOOKS LIKE I AM WEARING AN AFGHAN!! I have to play around with it I guess. It just looks so silly on me, not at all sassy like I had hoped. I just fear people will think I am wearing a blanket. Deep breath in, Deep breath out.

Thank you. Dh hasn't been around and I got some bad news regarding my fertility or lack thereof so I have the pic taken I just need to download it. I will definitely do it this weekend. The Shimmer yarn looks great in my opinion. Bad news though, I frogged the whole clap made in the HPY. I just couldn't see myself wearing it, it was hanging down to my knees (and I checked all the measurements again, it's right on but I think I am just too short and the yarn was too heavy. Anyway, I think I am going to reuse the yarn to make a smaller clap since I love the yarn and the dropped stitches on the clap.

Here is the clap in the Shimmer yarn. This is the Grape Hyacinth colorway. I am making it as more of a scarf than a clap so it is much narrower.. I am knitting it on size 6 needles and using 2 strands of Shimmer. I didn't do as many increase rows on the clap pattern. I *think* I only increased until I had 73 stitches.

Lisa, that came out stunning! I can't wait to see it re-done in a smaller size.

I decided to do a scarf-sized clap on vacation (was good mindless but not boring car knitting, and I decided that I wasn't going to do ANY work-related knitting on vacation, so this was a good distraction) It's for MIL's birthday in October, and I think she's going to love it. I followed the knitty pattern, but only increased to 60-soething stitches instead of the 100-something it called for, so it's roughly half the width of the original. it's the perfect scarf size, and I'm tempted to keep it for myself, but the colors aren't *me* at all (it's andromeda in elijah, but with a touch of grey added) and they're just too cool toned for my irish skin, LOL! I'll post pics when it finished. I'm doing the dropped stitches in purl this time, and it's way easier to keep track of them than it was the first time (where I didn't use markers and just tried to follow where the twists were) and I'm droppinga ll the drop rows each time I get to the point hwere you finish one section so it's nice to see the progress faster that way.

Lisac
08-15-2005, 11:49 AM
Thanks Theresa, it is so beautiful in your colorway. I think I will increase my new one to around 60 stitches as you suggested. I can't wait to get started on it.

From what I have read the andromeda is the same yardage and all as LL .....2 might be just a bit short of 2/3. BUt then I haven't worked with it.

mamapez

For the full clapotis, you need a touch over 3 skeins. I skipped a increase repeat, which results in one less decrease repeat as well, and was able to make a Clapotis in three skeins (I made two this way, in total).
To do it in two skeins, you have to be half way through by the end of the first skein. Since you increase up to a certain number of stitches, and then have to knit that many stitches the entire middle section, you probably don't have to stop increasing as soon as you might think. You might just get away with 2/3.
You are braver than I. I would be afraid to knit up a whole skein and figure out it wasn't wide enough or something. But then I'm a super slow knitter...
