View Full Version : Maybe I'm too dumb to use flats...

Okay, we have some flats now, but I am not having much luck with them. I'm doing the orgami fold. I've tried both knotting the tails and using a snappi. The problem is I cannot get them tight enough around the leg to prevent blowouts, and I don't want to have to be washing my wool everyday - yuck!

I'm rolling the sides, but it simply doesn't seem tight enough to keep the poop from going wherever it wants to.

And the snappi...I'm thinking it needs four legs instead of three because when I put it on, it keeps everything tight through the center so the poop is squeezed to the sides where it is free to roam as it pleases...

I'm not ready to give up...yet. But for those of you smart people who have mastered flats, how long did it take you to figure it out? Any tips?

there is a learning curve! don't get too downhearted about it.

when you pull the wings around to pin or snappi, pull them up and over. then, after it's pinned, give the legs an extra roll or two in.

don't really know what to tell you on the snappi thing. i only pin mine.

you'll come to love them!

What size are your flats? I use 36" flats and I fold mine into a prefold shape (in half, then in thirds with the middle overlapping so that the center has 6 layers) then I fold them in the jellyroll or newspaper fold. HTH :)

Okay, finally tried that (had to wash them before I could use them again)...and it worked! Theresa's jellyroll fold is brilliant! We had the jellyroll fold with a Ribby over the top, and he pooped and no leaks whatsoever (other than the diaper bleeding through a little in the area that the doubler wasn't covering). Yeah! If I would have learned the jellyroll before I got rid of my prefolds, perhaps I would have liked them better...

ETA my flats are 36x36 and I have to just fold them so the edges meet in the center or they don't come far enough around the sides to snappi. I know, ds is a chunky monkey...

I always thought snappi's needed a 4th, too. LOL
