Hi All,
I am looking for something to replace the Paton's Classic Wool, merino that i"ve been using. I'd need something that was in the same price/weight range. I can get it for $6 at the store...any suggestions?
What about the 3 ply stuff at fabricconnection? Would that be too thick? Please LMK!
Thanks!

For soakers? You can get fisherman's at Joann's for $9 a skein and the skein is like 2xs bigger. It's not as soft as merino. I hope that helps some

 I should have been more specific! :) I use Fisherman's too, but was looking for something that could be softer...I was using the Paton's merino, but have heard not so pleasing htings about it. :hmph:
I am doing soakers. So...in terms of thickness...the Fabric connection's 3 ply is that a worsted? Is it thicker/thinner than Fisherman's and how soft is it?
Thanks!
:) tammy

If you want to try the wool at fabriconnection, you'll probably want to use the 2-ply. Her 3-ply is pretty thick.

Pamela, what size needles do you recommend for 3-ply?

Nines. When I use 10.5 it stretches out too easily . I get about 4.5 stitches per inch or thereabouts. :pink

The mill is testing their new spinning equipment, should be about 4-5 weeks :( I will have Bartlett 2 ply and Bartlett 3 ply again in the coming week or so. I"m also going to call my mill and see if they have any 2 ply stashed anywhere, even if it's on freaking cones and I have to wind it into skeins

I wish I could :(
My last order was only 20lbs (all of which sold in a matter of a week, 75 of those 80 skeins I had to dye!! )and they really had to dig to find it b/c their inventory said they were OUT  They must love me :pink

None :( She said they ave 6 lbs but it's not even seconds quality, very thick/thin spun and funky. They expect to begin the 2 ply natural on the 15th and I have 40lbs back ordered, and will probably add more to that  But my Bartlett order did arrive today :D

Ok..here's a stupid question....Ithough we were talking about the BArtlett? lol...since (obviously) we aren't...what is the difference between your Bartlett and your 2-ply? Basically I'm looking for an alternative to Fisherman or Paton's Merino (guage is important to me 8sts per 2 in)...
Please help this confused "hooker"....lol

My 2 ply is a merino yarn and is super soft, the Bartlett is a little rougher. The guage is close to the same, I'd say 4-5 sts per inch so pretty close to the guage you need :D

HA!! They found more and they're going to start milling next week, a week ahead of schedule. They're shipping me what they have left of the 2 ply(like 5lbs or so) some 2 ply Merino/Mohair blend that should be lovely, and the "seconds" yarn. She said it's usable, just not consistent enough for them to sell as first quality, much more like a handspun yarn, too bad I didn't get a discount on it b/c I"m already a wholesale customer
