:) I have some Lopi-lite and bulky. Is this yarn good for soakers? Does it soften up after washing? Thanks! :knit

some lopi is scratchy, and some soft. I've made a nice soaker from the fabriconnection lopi, but other lopi I've felt in the yarn shop is super scratchy.

if it's jessica's lopi-style yarn,t hen it's probably okay (from what I've heard it very soft, but I've never used it myself) If it's genuine lopi (liek Reynold's Lopi) then no way no how I'd ever put it anywhere near a baby's bottom. It's just too scratchy and won't get softer with washing, at all.

Oh great! Thats what I have like 5 skeins of one of which has already been dyed!
It really did'nt feel all that scratchy to me, maybe its just me??? :crud:

real lopi (not lopi-spun, which is what Jessica carries. IMO, lopi-spun is MUCh nicer than real lopi) Anyway, real lopi is made from icelandic sheep's wool, and you can imagine what that fiber mush be like in order to keep those sheepies warm in Iceland  It's thick, wirey and primarily made up of guard hairs which are NOt comfy next to bare skin. They are incredibly insulating and waterproof, but they just aren't comfy. Of course, that's subjective, too. But generally, Lopi is used for outdoor wear and ski sweaters.

If you are afraid that is too scratchy for next to the skin - maybe you could fiand a different yarn to use for the waistband and leg openings and use the lopi for the body of the soaker.....then it woudn't be up against skin.....

Just thought it might be a way to use up the yarn! :pink

:) Thanks for all your info. I could use it for the body of the soaker and other yarn for the waistband and legs, but I think the mamas will want the whole soaker to be soft! I'll have to think of something else to use it for! :knit

Has anyone ever tried mixing two different yarns together like that? I wonder if it would look ok and not too wierd??

Yup, real lopi is scratchy as heck. The Lopi I sell is just Lopi spun Merino wool ;)

What size needles did you use? I wanted to make cargo shorts out of mine, but can't get the gauge small enough.

I posted this question here: http://woolywonder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=673

Should I have posted it in Yarn Yoga? :?

I use 8's and adjust the pattern if my guage is off

Are you talking about the same lopi I purchased from you? What was your gauge with 8's?

I have no idea, I"d have to go knit a swatch to see

I do almost all my knitting by eye. I know approx. how many stitches I need to cast on to get what size I need, and then I just wing it. I don't normally use patterns for anything.

 Wow, you are daring! I'm a pattern gal through and through. It's too much work to end up bad. :)
