I've been contemplating starting a new design where the waistband and possibly leg cuffs are knitted, but the body of the soaker is crocheted. I have a great crochet stitch pattern book & want to play around with it.

Do you think it will work? I don't really see a problem with picking up for the waisband and things like that, but then again I haven't done it.

My other question is do you think people want soakers that are both knit and crocheted? (Because for some odd reason I think that if I'm going to develop a pattern on my own I may as well write it up formally...) :fishy

Yes, the mothershelpinghands rolled edge wool soaker is crocheted with knitted rolled waistband and leg cuffs. It was the first crochet soaker I made and i loved it - nice thick fabric with snug legs and waist because of the knitting - best of both worlds if you ask me :)

I made a pair of wool pants for Davina/twouglyducks where I picked up the waist and knit ribbing...

My favorite newborn soaker too was the mothershelpinghands rolled edge crochet soaker. It was one of the first soakers I made, before I hardly even knew how to knit. But unfortunately, in my sleep deprived babymoon state, I threw it in the washer and dryer and it felted :( Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe I'll make one for the new babe :)

Here's a link to the pattern:

I've made a few like that, and I think Tammy sells them like that?? Honestly, have you tried crocheted ribbing? It holds up way better than knitted ribbing in my opinion. I have even considered doing crocheted ribbing for the waist and knitted body for the trimness. Anyone tried that??

Well after I got home, I started a size small girly soaker thingy. It actually looks more like a skirt due to the pattern I chose for the body. I'm not sure how this baby is going to fit & now I'm wishing I'd started with a large to try on my girls. Duh!

Maybe the next one will come out better!

Will post pics later....

LOL this is what I get for not reading all the forums and thinking I am coming up with something new! Meet BOB my newest pattern that I am hopefully going to add to my product line.

I 'thought' it was a unique idea, but then I am pointed in this direction! LOL who said it? "Nothing is unique, just unvented" LOL Anyway I am sending out testers in the next day or so (that one went out last night) please don't laugh at my crocheting, it i my first attempt at anything other than a discloth. :D

my crochet pattern is knit waist and cuffs. i cannot for the life of me get crochet ribbing right without sticking my tongue out and squinting really hard. it's my concentration face. :D
