I want to use textured stitches for the sides of my soaker designs. How much stretch do I really need is the question. I know cables work pretty well.

I'm working on a 'band' width for those textures. Trying to figure out how wide I should go maybe depends on the amount of stretch? I've got a tiny vine pattern I'm dy ing to try. Sigh.

Faux cables work really well. I've used them for the waistband before, and it still has lots of stretch. I like ribbing, that's what I used in the pumpkin soaker (gallery), but you have to fiddle to get the graft to come out right. Any stitch that has some stretch to it works. Stitch guide.com and the like have some ideas. Garter stitch is pretty. I think seed stitch could work, but you might have to do a bit extra around because it's a bit heavier fabric and tends to draw in. Will try to come up with more ideas...off to check my pattern....
