Yes, I have no life and I did it tonight, LOL. Felt like goofing off and greg actually was asleep (of course, he's awake now, little bugger)

I think it's pretty self-explanatory, but if anyone wants to really do a play-by-play sew-a-long, I'm cool with that :)

Awesome! I'll be back if I get stuck - which is quite likely. :D

I messed up a ton which was pissing me off the whole time - I think I swore about a million times. :irked However, once I was finished I was quite pleased. Not bad for my first completed sewing project. :)

Wow, Patti!!! You were motivated! :pink

I guess a prepregnancy-sized skirt while in the last trimester isn't too motivating, huh?

Yeah, I guess not. Boy was I wishing you were here when I was working on it. I totally sucked @$$ the whole time. I can't sew straight to save my life. For some reason the stupid thread kept breaking at the needle and it was kicking my butt -after a few minutes it quit doing it. I have no idea why that was happening. Also, I made the opening for turning it right side out too small. Man, was that a pain! I kept thinking of childbirth the whole time.

Anywho, thanks for posting the instructions - I couldn't have done it without all those pics!

:theresa .... thanks for posting that!!! I will be off to Joann's today to get my material. I need something desperately bad for my needles (and my yarn... it is overrunning my house (a tote is what I am looking for there)).

Patti....you did an AWESOME job!!!! Way to go!!!

Hey... I am going to shadow this one here, but I am going to move it to the sew and sew folder, if that is ok with everyone?

I'm definitely going to make one of these!

Okay, don't laugh at me, but...is "fat quarter" a technical term? If I go to the fabric store and ask for a fat quarter, are they going to look at me like I'm crazy? Or will they just say "No problem, here ya go"? :hide

It's a technical term, LOL. They'll definitely know what you mean. They are really just 1/4 yard cuts, but cut in a way to get more use of the fabirc (18 by 22 instead of 9 by 44) Quilters use them for piecing fabrics :) If you go to joann's, they've got them folded in squares against the calico wall.

And guess who is going to Joann's this morning WITHOUT the kids in tow!?????? YES!!!! ME!!! :pink :pink :pink I can't wait to make this, Theresa!!! I will post a pic of when it is finished.... next year! LOL!

I just remembered a question I had while making this - when I topstitched the first time, was I supposed to do it all the way around, or just at the hole? Cause I only did it at the hole and then realized that you probably meant the entire part that I had sewn together. :lookroun: But I was too lazy and quite frustrated and wasn't really expecting it to turn out so I didn't bother. lol Also, when you fold a yard in half and cut it to 30" long, wouldn't it be 18" wide cause 3 feet = 1 yard = 36"??? How do you get 22"? So my case is a bit smaller than the rest and I had to go back and cut my fat quarter to fit. I think I'm missing some sort of terminology or something...is a yard in sewing different from a "real" yard? Like how a baker's dozen is different from and actual dozen?...I know, I'm a dork.

you topstitch the whole bottom edge where the opening is (so over th opening and then along the rest of that edge, only)

I think you might have folded your fab in the wrong direction. A yard of calico (and most other wovens) is 44" wide and 36" long when you place it with the cut sides at top and bottom and selvedges at each side. You want to fold it so that the selvedges meet, so that you now have a 22" by 36" rectangle, with a fold on one long side and the selvedges together on the other side. Then, you lop 6" off the top or bottom, and you've got your 22 x 30 2 layer piece :)

I had two yards of this fabric, so I just folded it to measure 3 feet instead of folding in half and then cutting it. Thanks - now I know. :)

I will post a pic of mine when I get my camera up here... my version would be the WRONG way to do it... I wasn't paying any attention to the directions, just going on as if I knew what was going on, and then realized I had it folded up the wrong way. So mine looks a little different. But it is still functional, and I wasn't going to let it get the best of me!

Sewing is NOT my forte!!!

Here is mine...including my pathetic, almost-non-existent needle collection (except the size 7's I'm using for a hat).

I suck at sewing, but it's functional, so that's okay. :)

You did a great job! Better than I did - I didn't take a close up pic for a reason. ;)

I don't sew, except by hand. This doesn't seem like a by-hand-able project. Does anyone sell these?

Also, I just splurged on the Denise needles, but they haven' t arrived. Can I make DPN from them?

I also used the material left over when I cut my yard to make a little matching bag to hold a few accessories (scissors, stitch holders, yarn needles, and a bunch of stuff that I don't know what it is yet).

It's not straight (I cannot cut or sew straight!), and it has the worst button hole in the history of sewing, but it does hold stuff. :)

It won't bring up your picture Nicole :( The only way that I could cut straight for the longest time was with my rotary cutter and a big thick acrylic ruler, so don't feel bad :LOL

Ooooo, rotary cutter....I used one of those once at Amy's house when I made some hemp inserts...awesome! I was wishing I had one of those when I made the needle case.
