For those of you with very very heavy wetters...what kind or style of lanolin product do you use?
ds1 was an extremly heavy wetter, I tried so many ways with him but gave up on wool (we only knew aristocrats at that time). ugg he had the biggest cd butt possible, lol we wondered how he could walk sometimes lol lol.
with ds2 hes such a light light wetter I only wash/lanolize with a gylcerin soap lanolin combo I made him. plus he can wear just 1 soaker all day.
BUTTTTTTTTTTTTT omg dd is such a heavy wetter. I really dont want to give up on wool like i did with ds1...but shes soaking thu every technique. I cant make her diapers any thicker with doublers...cuz then she'll blow out.
Or should i just double knit thru the middle?
Mamas of heavy wetter please help!

I think Gavin is under the impression there's a prize for out pee'ing everything.
I use my yarn doubled for the entire project for most of his stuff. And I use liwuid lanolin and soak the items for a couple hrs. Generally, you can feel the lanolin on the shorts put then he has the *softest* legs ever.lol

Yes with ds1 I learned hemp is the only thing i could use with him, so we have a ton of hemp diapers.
but i wil knit a few wool doublers for her and see if that makes a difference.
but as the above posted...maybe i am not soaking the soakers in enough lanolin enough for her.
I have always done 1 tbl to 1 c water.

when i lanolize i take an empty snapple bottle, fill it with water to about an inch from the top, nuke it for 1 min, add a squirt of baby shampoo and squeeze about an inch of lanolin into it. swirl it around really good and add it to the sink my soaker is in. i only put enough water in the sink for the soaker to get wet and stay under. it works much better for me with the shampoo than with plain lanolin and water. :love
ahhhhh baby shampoo!!!
What brand? I do not use shampoo or a lot of soap on my son....should I buy something special?

You could try adding some Lansinoh to the glycerin soap you already use, just to boost the lanolin content. The purpose of the shampoo (or soap) in the mixture is just to keep the lanolin from clumping. I microwave a cup of water with an inch of lanolin per soaker and add shavings of WOW bar. You may also have to lanolize a little more often for a heavy wetter - that's what I have to do for my dd1's covers :sheep

ugg went to grab the tube of lanolin...oops gotta go to the store to get more.
I will try it by melting the soap then adding a bit more lanolin and see if that helps.
I really like the bars, its so much more convient. lol but after her last changing....lol
I think I am better off just applying the lanolin directly to the soaker/longies. :getu :ohno

heehee! i use it for soakers mainly. you can use any kind. i use aveno baby wash because i do sometimes use it on the boys and they have sensitive skin. it's not bad.

i second the wool doubler idea. sometimes i use these for overnight and i can totally tell a difference in that the outer layer of the dipe seems more dry. some mamas put the wool doubler outside the diaper between the dipe and soaker. that's a pretty good idea if your dipe is already super thick.
i'm guessing that you could just lanolize once a week or, like, more often than you usually do. that might make a difference.
also, not sure if you would do this but....lightly felted wool is awesome for holding back floods. i have 2 soakers that are lightly felted and i use those exclusively for overnights. they kick butt!!! i've never had a leak.

needless to say ds1 always reminds me....no wool by Nana
maybe i will just machine wash those 1 more time to make them smaller for dd.

If you felt a soaker REALLY well, you can cut the sides open and it makes a dandy wool doubler.
