Our site is going live TONIGHT! http://fiberartsavengers.com
Jesse is having an article published in a local newspaper, and hopefully we'll get lots of new traffic!
Please check in in this thread to let us know what you're working on, how's it coming along, what you'd like to start doing, etc!
So, I'm Pam, your Avenger-In-Chief! I'm working on text for the site, trying to get all the ducks in a row with the committee chairs, planning a free pattern to donate for the project, and ah.. that's all I can think of right now.
Who are ya and What's Your SuperPower!! I think mine is multitasking ;)

I'm Julia and I am a lowly Avengerette. My not-so-super power will be organizing receipts for the drawings, drawing winners, and guiding crafty avengers in their quest to create & donate! :D

I'm going to donate a portion of the proceeds from my Embellishing 101 class to the cause. It will be at least $3 per student, but possibly more depending on how many people enroll in the class. I have a few other ideas floating around in my head but I haven't made a decision on anything yet. I figured I would wait to see what everyone else is donating and I would try to fill in the gaps.
:)
I will be knitting a couple of items for auction/donation - probably a heart scarf and some comfort socks :)

Hi, I'm Angela...I have the super power of procrastination...
I'm a couple inches into my first Shedir in #470 (Flamingo aka pale pink) and have a ball of #472 waiting in the stash. If my super power takes over I will have one cap ready for...err...when are the items due? If the super power short curcuits then I'll have two ready for...err...when was that date again?

I'm coordinator for the charity auctions w/ Patti. I need to know if I am supposed to be asking/emailing people about this and asking for donations to auction? And, am I in charge of getting a template for the auction?

Auction Clarifications:
See here about auctions, and how I'd like to run them.
http://www.fiberartsavengers.com/auctions.html
Individuals or businesses can run auctions on their own, and donate the proceeds to Jesse's fundraising effort (http://tinyurl.com/6366z)... here, I made us a tiny url: http://tinyurl.com/6366z.
It says Julia and Danica for contacts, but it's supposed to say Patti (dandelions2) and Kim (imonion)!
Marnie is putting together an auction template for us, and will let people know how to use it.
Our first deadline, our first DRAWING is April 15th!! We need raise $500 by then to earn Jesse her hip pack (See blog - www.fiberartistavenger.blogspot.com for details)! So get your needles moving, we need drawing items done in advance of that, say April 10th or so?

I had planned on knitting something for auction, but am not sure which would be best. If we do auctions ourselves (i'm a bit leery) do we donate what we want/can from that? Is it better to do soakers etc. or, say, a hat? I'm still just not super sure how it works. If we do soakers or something, I'm assuming the buyer gets it. But how does it work if we do the hats or something? I promise, I'm trying not to be dingy about this... but for some reason it just isn't clicking. :goodgrief
Oh, and I'm wondering, too, if cotton wouldn't be better than wool for summer hats??? I have some bulky cotton I can dye, but not sure what pattern to use for that type yarn.
And if the "winner" is essentially donating an item, to whom is it donated? I know there is the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa (about an hour from me). WOuld that be a good start? :balloon

publicity. i'm working on a release to send out to magazines, newspapers and online sites regarding this initiative. just trying to figure out the timing and scope of everything so it can be laid out in a way thats easy to understand.

nakking,
just my thoughts on the auctions...i say make what you want/can. mamas would like hats or sweaters as well as soakers/shorts, etc. i think. donate whichever percentage you can and indicate that in your auction.
if you decide to do an auction, email me or patti so we can hook you up with the template, etc.

We talked about doing something where you can "buy" a donated hat for a cancer patient. Maybe our auction mamas can put together a plan for this, or someone with a strong idea can volunteer to organize it along with them. So you'd do like "buy it now" at the auction and the money would go to Jesses' Fundraising Effort and the item would be sent "in their honor" to the clinic/person/whatever.

OK trying to catch up on this now that I found the lost emails. :)

Alrighty, now that I've had a chance to catch up...
How does doing the first round of auctions from April 8th to the 13th sound? Then we can gt all th info. to Julia by the 15th.
I also think that each crafter could designate the place/person their items will go to--and include that information in their auction. Just a way to make each auction personal to the bidders...knowing it will go to "Aunt MArge" who has been battling cancer for so and so long, etc.

Hi everyone! I'm just in love with each of you as I read this board and this thread.
I'm Jesse and I'm the feet! I hope I don't stink! Har har. I'm also going to work on a special memorial shirt and as of right now I'm creating our cafe press stuff--so I guess you can call me the Merchandise Avenger, too.

I'm Katie and my super power is begging for ad space....I think I need more begging super power though. Cynthia is my deputy and we will be sending follow up emails (this week?) to remind our original contacts about our request and to let them know the site is live.
(It looks really cool! Great job, Pamela and Marnie!)
On a personal note, I have Knit for the Cure Yarn up at my store - www.bungalowbuns.com - proceeds go to Jesse's fund. Our first donation of $54.20 went in this morning. It's taken us a while to get our costs figured out, but now that we have, the donations should be made almost immediately after purchase. I did raise the price a couple of dollars per skein, so that the donation % is higher.

Finally getting back into some knitting I plan to donate at least 1 of the items in my next HC stocking (hopefully sunday) to the FAA. I've been wanting to do something for you guys for a long time but my hands and body keep giving out on me.
I am sure about 1 soaker and pmatching CD tie dye Tshirt but I am sure I'll come up with something else before sunday. Is there a link I can place in my HC for the FAA?

Mabye a little pair of hakama with a lightweight tailcoat and a shirt to match?
What do I do with everything when it's done?
