Help! I'm confused!

Hi everyone! :wave I'm new to the forums and am excited to participate! :D

I'm learning how to do single crochet ribbing and it's lovely, I like it! :thumb

As I was doing it, I was noticing that the ribs were forming horizontally and wondered to myself, "Hmmmm, shouldn't they be vertical?" Then I went back and checked out my handy-dandy pattern and sure enough, when you start crocheting the body (of a sleeve, in this case), you ROTATE the ribbing and sc into what used to be its vertical edge. Okay.

:irked HOW DO YOU DO THAT? I'm examining the edge and it doesn't have nice neat little loops to crochet into, it's all bumpy with ridges here and loops there, it looks like a crochet minefield! So how do I know where to put my hook? And why can I not for the life of me find any directions anywhere about this? This is NOT intuitive, help me please! :help

Kind regards,
Guin

Its extremky easy, once you get the hang of it.

example:
chain 9, turn, sc into each back loop, chain 1, turn, repeat.

Hi again!

Thanks for your response, but that wasn't really my question, lol!

I can actually DO single crochet ribbing with no problem, that's going really well! :D

The part I can't figure out is how to sc INTO the vertical edge of the ribbing when I'm done with it and go to transition to the body of my sleeve. Do I only sc along each END of the ribbing rows (meaning my stitches are going to significantly decrease, aren't they)? Or is there some other way to do it? I just can't see where my hook should go, b/c that edge doesn't have nice visible v's to work with, does that make sense?

Aargh, it's hard to describe something you DO with words, isn't it?

Can anyone help?

I just sew mine together.
I dont like turning because it leaves tiny little holes (where you turned)
but if you sc into everyhole possible then add additional sc you should be ok

after you've finished the ribbing..you slst the ends together (or sc, or sew, etc)..to work the "sleeve" or whatever you are making with the ribbing..you (or what I do) is sc in EACH row...so ifyou have 100 rows of ribbing...then you have 100 sc on the first row... You will have the side bars of the sc (more visable in dc) that's where you crochet into (on some rows it's just as easy to crochet into the base of that row)...lmk if you need more one on one. :)
