Here is a rough draft I've whipped up. I'd like to get it refined so that I can just keep reusing it. Suggestions are welcome and encouraged! I'd really like it to sound professional. :ribbon

Ok, here's the latest incarnation. I think we can remove some of the Knitty specific things and use if for general fundraising/sponsorship.

Dear Knitty,

I am writing on behalf of a group of knitters who have recently spearheaded an effort to raise funding for breast cancer research. Most of us frequent the same knitting forum where recently one of our members announced that she will be participating in the Seattle 3 Day event. (www.the3day.org – Seattle) It involves a 60 mile walk over three days, with a minimum funding goal of $2100. All the money raised goes to fund breast cancer research, awareness and education through the Susan B Komen foundation and National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Though our minimum goal is $2100, our hopes are much higher.

In order to meet our goals, we are pursuing many paths. Soon our site will be up and visitors will be able to make a direct donation (www.fiberartsavengers.com). We will be hosting a variety of auctions. Some of the auctioned items will go to the purchaser, while for other auctions, the item is donated to a woman battling cancer and all proceeds from the sales go toward our fundraising goals. Many of these “donated items” will be knitted from your breast cancer awareness publication, since each pattern author has graciously granted us permission to use their work. We also will be selling clothing, mugs and totes to help promote awareness. We want all women to be aware of the risks, and to understand what we can do to minimize these.

Our enterprise is still in the start-up phase, and we are gathering our resources. We are currently looking for sites that are willing to give us free or discounted advertising space. If you are willing to assist us in our endeavor, please reply to bungalowmum@isp.com. We would be delighted to discuss a more formal sponsorship arrangement in exchange for free advertising on our site. Our hopes are great and we welcome your collaboration!

Jesse, our 3 Day participant, is a journalist herself. Her blog (http://fiberartistavenger.blogspot.com/) chronicles her journey so far. It is full of hope and determination – I hope you find it as inspiring as I do.

Sincerely,
Katie Franceschi

I just sent the revised version into their ad manager. I feel very nervous. I did remember to put a period after the B....
