I have a suggestion for you. (not that you asked) You should make up instructions for embroidering even just one cool design. You could totally sell embroidery designs.

If writing up instructions is too complicated/time consuming, maybe you could just work wtih a partner to get the instructions written out.

I think fifty mamas here would take a class to learn to embroider even just one thing you designed.

Am I right Mamas? Er, I mean Everybody! (We do have a couple of Daddies here, y'know!)

To show Elizabeth how easy it would be, I am going to teach a basic embroidery class here ... it's gonna be butterflies and dragonflies. Simple simple.... duplicate stitch and chain stitch. And stemmed french knots.

Watch my store and here for details. Gimme a week to put it together. Harass me about it too.

I should post another thread about this.
Is that design idea too boring?

Maybe $15 for the class. Maybe three sessions?

I dont' think it is boring at all, Pam.... and that would be $ 15 well spent dollars. I need all the help I can get!!

I thought a dragonfly was kinda boyish. :hide

1) Non-daddy non-mommys exist here too y'know. :stern: ;)

2) Dragonflies are totally acceptable for little boys. Then again, so are unicorns and rainbows. 8)

3) I am so in with the embroidery class. Now to find the $15 for that, the $13 for the :theresa wrap, and $95 for the swift and ball winder set...

Um... Anyone want a long-distance doula?

I'd be in for your class! I would totally put dragonflies on my boy - in fact, I HAVE put them on him! :D

Pam-

You are right, dragonflies are boyish. I guess I didn't read your post very carefully

Hey guys you gotta wake me up when you call!

I might be persuaded to teach a turtle and Nemo class if it gets me out of doing them lol!

Generally tho I sort of make it up as I go....not very structured.

I'd take it, and I'll have my first soaker done soon to embellish.

So here's what I'll do. I'll make up a sample and take some pictures of the stitches I do in each step. I'll also point to existing online demos of embroidery stitches. Should be pretty easy.

How's that sound Elizabeth? You want to teach a class together or separate? I'll host your class here in a private forum if you like! Hmm... maybe we should talk off the boards. :secret

I've never taken an online class. Is it just offered and you go read the instructions? Or is it a "lesson a day" kinda thing? Will people be asking questions?

I dunno if my online class is typical or not.

I make up pages with instructions that I upload to my website. Students get a password to access the pages. Then I ask students to respond with photos or pix to show their work.

Often I refer to online resources so as not to reinvent the wheel, but if my technique is different, I make up my own instructions. I generally do this in Microsoft Word and upload to my site via FTP.

I have private sites here in the forums that only students can see. They pay in my store and I give them access to the class usergroup.

I usually do one class a week which is doable for most mamas. They get the lesson when they can, ask questions on the forums and put up their photos. By the next week we are ready to progress.

With an embroidery mini-class we could do it in two or three weeks I'd say.

Did I answer your questions?

Pam,your class is very typical. I took several on-line college courses that were setup almost identically (of course, they had tests haha)

I acutally used to teach a hybrid online/F2F (face to face) English class with Deaf students. This is just so different. ;)
