I just dyed a soaker that was made from Fisherman's Wool. It came out great but the color keeps bleeding onto my son's CPF and when I washed it the other day, the water was just green!! Any suggestions?? I used the instructions in "Stitch and Bitch".

TIA

I always soak things in half vinegar, half water, pinch of salt for less than a minute and the bleeding stops. It has worked every time for me. :bigups:

I do a soak with maybe a 1/4 vinegar in the water - not scientific....enough so I smell the vinegar...Soak for about 30 minutes or more...Then plop it into my veggie steamer for 15 to 30 minutes...

Even before I did this the only problem I had with the dye - was transfer to a wet dipe - and that laundered right out of the diaper. Seems that it is the reds that tend to do this - moreso than the blues or yellowsl

I have some yarn cooling that I can't wait to dry so I can post a pic.....Once again...it wasn't what I was going for - but is pretty. (and of course I was just tossing colors in so I will NEVER be able to recreate it---and I am being honest ---not modest!!)

Pam, what is a veggie steamer, is it the same as a electric rice cooker?
Do you put it in the steamer with any liquid?
Sorry I am a little confused

Mine is a black and decker thingie - that you can use to steam rice or veggies....I fill the bottom compartment with water - usually between the high and low level since my steamer doesn't have a level listed for dyeing yarn. Mine has a little basket inside the steamer that I put the yarn in.

I just use my steamer pan on the hob. But I do have to watch it so it can't be left.

What the heck is a hob? A stove? A burner? I am UK slang inept!

Yes, stove top. Don't think it's slang but not sure of the root of the word :( sorry.

I found that whatever bleeds onto the diaper washes out fine.

I have red wool covers (not knitted), and they all bleed a bit. Just rinse the diapers and wash as normal. Should be ok. :D
