I'm soooo interested in this.
Anyone done it?
I think it'd be good for soakers but I'm having the kind of day were I just may spell my own name wrong if I'm not paying attention.
I will go over it again tomorrow or maybe Saturday when I can think clearly.

I want a pic of the finished fabric!
Sounds like constant intarsia? or is that a pain int-arsia lol. You'd definitely have to be able to hold the yarn two handed for that.

Schoolhouse Press has an old Wool Gathering from Elizabeth Zimmermann about it, and there's a book they just had translated as well, but the name is escaping me since I haven't had coffee yet, LOL. Check the Schoolhouse Press (http://www.schoolhousepress.com) Website ;)

This is on my "to-do" list but I haven't actually finished anything.
When I looked at this the first time I knew the answer to the following question but now I'm drawing a blank :) What is the difference between this technique and double knitting aka Hoover Blanket from Knitty? The only one I see right now (before my morning coffee has kicked in) is that you are very carefully twisting the strands where as with the double knitting your very carefully NOT twisting...
My little flicker of memory seems to say that there is a lot more then that one difference..but...nope, not gonna remember what it is :)
Make sense?

doubled knitting gies you two distinct layers of fabric, whereas with twined knitting you get one layer, but it's twice as thick as usual becuase each stitch has the strand that actually worked the stitch, and then the second strand runs behind it in a *float* you keep changing the yarn each stitch so that the floats are only one stitch long, creating a nice, thick , dense fabric that has lots of room to grab air pockets for insulation ;)
