I'm about 2" into it, but have been so busy today with a sick dd and not feeling so well myself.

Yeah, I'm all done!!! And before my KAL is finished  even though I started that a week or two before...

crochet really is faster!

Let me weave in the ends and then I'll look around for our camera to post a pic. :pink

ohh yeah... I gotta grab my yarn and hook for this one... I'm using a baby soft acrylic. It calls for a size smaller hook than pattern so I'm hoping that's enough to size it for a bit smaller babe. My friend is due next week!! Did it hook up quick??

I've been doing a bigillion other things, so I'm still at about 2 1/2" - but if you are a veteran crocheter, I'd say it's a 2-3 hour project. Amy's a complete newbie and she's done already. :bigups:

k, i finished it. Did it bother anyone else that the abbrev. for slip stitch was ss? I'm so used to seeing it as sl st that everytime I saw ss I would get confused and my mind would just go blank. :irked Anywho, anyone else think that dd's molly doll looks like a skater girl in this hat? : http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v342/dandelions2/100_0960.jpg

Amy, what did your gauge turn out to be? I think my hat is smaller than yours....I just checked my guage and it was right on with the pattern....no way this is a size 6-9 months....either that or ds's head is huge. ;)

I'm about 2 inches in, the pitfalls of doing more than one thing at a time :D I'm using a lighter weight yarn (baby soft) but it does seem to be a newborn size. I held it up against my 3month old (granted, he's 14lbs) but i don't think it would fit him. Fortunately, the inteded giftee is not born yet!! So hopefully it gets finished before he grows out of it

I will have to check my gauge when I get home, but I think I was right on as well. It is too big to be 6-9 months, unless you have a head like my ds. I was even able to put it on his head now at 17 months! Although, it was more to the back on his head. I think BethyM99 has the right idea with a lighter weight yarn. :nod

:D Mine is definitely not looking too big... I'll try to work on it more tonight to see what it turns into :) It's hard to have 3 projects and two kids

No way - you must have a looser stitch - did you use the G hook or H? I used G - shoulda used H I think cause it's tiny.

I used whatever hook we decided was right. Whatever 6 is in letters. Can you tell I'm a newbie?
The pattern calls for a 7, but my kit only had size 6 and 8 in it.

Amy, what did your gauge turn out to be? I think my hat is smaller than yours....I just checked my guage and it was right on with the pattern....no way this is a size 6-9 months....either that or ds's head is huge. ;)

The pattern has the gauge at 16 sc and 20 rows in 4" with a 4.50mm (7 US) crochet hook.

I got 16 sc and 16 rows in 4" with a 4.25mm (6 US or G) crochet hook. So my hat should be taller than theirs was, but the same circumference. I measure a 16-19" circumference. It stretches pretty big. Andrew is somewhere between 19 and 20 inches, and so it almost fits him fully stretched.

So yours must just be taller than mine cause my gauge was exact. I'd measure but I'm nak. I'll take a look tomorrow. I don't think mine is as stretchy as yours. I didn't try to hard to get it on Dominic cause he didn't want me to, and I just assumed it wouldn't fit, but maybe it would if I tried. Who knows, I'll look tomorrow.

:irked :irked :irked

I'm still doing the sc around... but I seem to be getting an increase on every row so my hat is, lopsidedly "shapely"

I'll probably :pezfrog it, how can I prevent this? I always have a hard time "seeing" the ch1 to know when I've reached the end of the round....

Do you have a stitch marker? You could mark your first stitch so you know when you come to it.

BethyM99
07-22-2004, 08:23 AM
I do, I have never used them with crochet.... I can't picture how I would. When you knit you just carry it along the needle.

:irked Too many hobbies!

dandelions2

You put it through the stitch you want to mark or around the post of the stitch - really any way you want - just as long as you know which one it is.

Cool!! It won't get "stuck" there? Beth's new form of beaded crochet? :lookroun:

dandelions2

What kind of markers are you using? You should use something that you'll be able to slip off, otherwise it could get crocheted into the hat. :pink My markers are little plastic safety pins. You could also use a small piece of yarn and loosely tie it around the stitch.

k, i measured and my hat stretches to 18" and is 7 1/2 inches long (that's all the way to the tip). Dominic's head is 18 1/2 inches, so it's just a little too tight.

BethyM99

I might give it a whirl again... the intended recipient was born Monday (I just found out today) and I'm visiting tomorrow to show mama how to use her diapers.... So, it might get done... :D Or scrapped, haven't decided yet...

Beth - how's the hat coming? Are you finished?

BethyM99

haha, nope!! I frogged it. the baby was born so I made him a baby quilt instead and went back to my knitting... :) It just wasn't meant to be. I will try to do another crochet along. I really appreciate the variety... I just hate when I get increases in a round... arggh!
