i'm working on a tote that i plan to felt. i'm using lamb's pride but have some cascade 220 that i'd like to add in. is it best to use one type of yarn when felting? do different yarns felt at different rates?
Oh yes they do (don't ask me how I know) the yarn gurus here would suggest you do test swatches and felt them. It depends how gutted you would be if you made the project, finished it and then it went tits up when you did the felting part. ime it sucks.
The rate at which the yarn felts depends on the type of wool it's made of - wool from different types of sheep felts differently, and also how tightly it's spun - the tighter it is the slower it felts. And of course whether it's superwash/treated in some way (again don't ask me how I know).
So there you go - take your chances or swatch - the choice is yours ;)
