After resisting the urge to add any color to any yarn I finally broke down and dyed a skein with DS. This is definitely almost more fun then knitting...did I say that!?!

It was really neat watching the darkest blue and the purple colors split, and DS got a kick out of watching my glove turn fuschia and my hand (yeah only used one glove) turn a gross navy/purple combo!

Inside picture, three shades of blue and a purple that split rather nicely:

Same basic four colors, nuked in the microwave with a couple dots of of green food coloring here and there:

Same as above balled and knitted:

DS yarn, dyed by him (mostly)

Me too, shhh don't tell everyone. I let my ds 'help' me too and it's definitely one of his favourite things to do together. I actually spent this evening using my new niddy noddy to make all 5 of my skeins of fishermens into hanks for *dyeing dammit* at some point lol.

It didn't, but I did while trying to take pictures, LOL. I almost hung it outside to dry but was worried about it freezing...

ooooo very pretty! Did you use food coloring exclusively or a combo of fc & acid dyes?

Only food dyes were used, I wanted this as safe as I could have it. Plus I've read the warnings and didn't have the space or weather to ventilate :)

short answer: Wilton's purple icing dye for the varigated yarn. Wilton's purple icing dye plus two drops each of red and blue food coloring for the striped yarn.

Long answer:
For the yarn that is all varigated I used straight purple wilton's dye to get that shade of purple. (Included in that varigation is dark blue, medium blue and light blue)

For the yarn that striped I used the same amount of wilton's purple and added two drops of red and two drops of blue to a quart jar. The other three colors were also mixed in quart jars. The light blue was left unaltered, the medium blue I added two drops of green food coloring to and the dark blue I added a few drops of blue food coloring to it.

I don't know if it will show up or if you can see it in those pictures but the purple that was on the striped skein had several shades on it. Some is a nice deep rich purple and that goes all the way to a paler burgandy/purple with baby blue spots.

HTH,
~Angela
