Has anyone heard of the Yarn Reel before? I stumbled onto the website recently and am curious. http://www.yarnreel.com

Apparently, it keeps your yarn in place while you are knitting/crocheting.

why not just wind into a center pull ball?

Looks similar to a lazy kate spinners use. You could always through your yarn into a coffee can with a hole in the lid to thread it through...if'n you are 'resourceful' like that.

'Resourceful' sounds so much better than cheap. hehe.

Could be interesting for intarsia, although I wouldnt spend the money. Now if dh made me one from scrap wood, I'd give it a go.
