Just wondering what is the average time it takes you to knit a basic simple soaker? I am hoping that it gets faster. :wool

The reason why I am asking is that I eventually want to do longies/pants for my daughter but if it is going to take a month then forget it, I will get wool jersey and sew them up in 15 minutes. I like the look of knitted though. I figure I get about an hour a day to knit. I hope my speed picks up and that I get a whole lot faster. I have been working on a soaker that I got from a free pattern (jenny's soaker) and I am on day two. I am 3/4 the way done but ran out of yarn :mur .

Not to fear though, I have some more wool in different colours for another project I was going to do. Just sad to not be able to complete this one for a couple of days.

Would love to hear your input. :bigups:

It totally depends for me. Your speed does get faster, though. I have finished a soaker in less than a day and then again I have taken alot longer on another. My big problem is changing how I want to do something 50 times while I'm knitting it. KWIM? I couldn't say whether longies would take a month or not tho :shrug

Stick with it mama!!! :love

Thanks for your reply I am :knit like a madwoman around here because I really want some soakers for my dd. I am realising that if I just put half the time into knitting as I do sitting here and admiring everyone else's work, I could have a ton done already :juggle

I'm a beginning knitter and it took me about a day to finish a newborn size - but that was when I had more free time. :) Now it would definitely take me two or three days for something like that. On the other hand, if I crochet a large size soaker it only takes 2-3 naptimes to finish it. 8)

I am a lot faster when it comes to crocheting too. I crocheted six blankets last year while I was on bedrest during my last pregnancy. I am talking full size blankets here :dance

So I am not the only one who burns the midnight candle, lol. I thought I was bad. I keep working on stuff until I can no longer see straight. Learnt my lesson with machine embroidery though. Gotta be awake for that so that you can catch the bobbin when it runs out. (Which always seems to happen when I walk away  ) 6-7 hours seems reasonable to me. I was just wondering if I had bit off more than I could chew.

The great thing now is that my mil is helping me. She is going to knit some longies for my daughter :noball . She is a great knitter and I am truly thankful that she can do this for me. My goal is to have enough soakers that can be worn as clothing at least a couple days during the week. Dresses are useless right now because she is crawling so I like to make covers that also function as clothing.

LOL, I definitely drive my dh crazy with my late hours!! But really, it's the only time I can concentrate on what I am doing. :)

That's great about your MIL helping you out w/ some soakers.
