I started knitting in 2000. My MIL gave me a book by Barbara Walker's Learn-to-Knit Afghan book (she had it in her basement).

It is a great book. The concept is that each square is made of a different stitch. I didn't make all the squares and I never finished the afghan, but I learned a ton.

I stopped knitting for awhile, but picked it back up again this year when we started CDing. I bought the LTK pattern from :theresa and haven't looked back.

Now I am completely addicted! :fluffy I even :count about knitting. YIKES!

Wow, Amy, you're the voice of experience! I've only been knitting for 2 weeks! :LOL Actually, my mom kind of taught me when I was 6. And 8. And 14. And 20. And here I am at *mumblecoughmumble* FINALLY getting the hang of it.

So, depending on how you count, either since I was 6, or since the end of last month. :love I only hope I'm still going in four years like you are, Melissa!

Let's see, I taught myself with a book when I was preggo with dd...so about 3 years ago. But counting total amount of time that I actually stuck with knitting would probably only be about 2 months. ;) (And only that long cause I was obsessed with making soakers for my newborn...and what's funny is I never used them!)

I would say I've been knitting for about three months. I got a speeding ticket and had to take traffic class and I learned to knit so I would have something to do while I sat there and so ds could have soakers to wear over his diapers (which I also made). I didn't get much knitting done during traffic class, but I have fallen in love with the hobby. It's so portable, and it doesn't require a big operation like sewing does.
