I did a shawl for my MIL in this stitch! Here's alink to the pattern I based it off of, it came out georgeous!! http://knitting.about.com/library/bldebra.htm

Anyway, LOL, what you do is knit 1, purl 1 and knit 1 all in ONE stitch (meaning, don't remove the stitch from the left hand needle after the first knit 1, but instead work the purl 1 and then another knit 1 into it, THEn remove it from the left needle) You're increasing taht stitch from 1, to 3.

Hmmm...thats what I'm doing. It just doesn't look bobbly...maybe my needles are too big? I'll have to try and post a pic.

OMG! That shawl is amazing! How long did it take you to do that? I've been wanting to make one for my grams forever.

hmm, Could be needle size, or could be theyarn you're using. What is it? Some yarns just have a tendency to fall flat no matter what you do to them, LOL

Ah, that shawl took me two weeks of knitting every night. Lace weight alpacadoes not make for a quick project, lol

I think its a combo of needles and yarn. I'm using cascade 220 - not my fave, but I've had it sitting around forever, and figured I'd try and do something with it. I just don't think its going to work. I might have try something with better hold - maybe a bartlett's?

One fine yarn has lace weight alpaca for about 5 dollars a skein. I'm thinking I could probably do that shawl in about three skeins....hmmm...
