Today, a friend of mine showed me a hat she bought long time ago in Canada. It was a beret looking thing, but as I looked closely at the stitches, I was amazed. The fabric of it was so dense, and as I pulled it apart, I could see an amazing stitch pattern. It was like, on some rows stitches had been slipped , or yarn overs, and then on subsequent rows theyd' been knit together. It pulled together and looked one way, and when you stretched it out it looked completely different. Looking at the back, it seemed like a k1p1 rib. I thought, what a fabulous stretchy soaker this would make! So I'm off to try and replicate that type of stitch from memory, in the round. Have you ever worked with a pattern like this?

I need a visual!!! It sounds kind of like stocking heel stitch??? I have dreams of one day making a soaker with stocking heel through the crotch...stretchy and durable! And very quick to knit up :thumb .

I can't find anything like it on the web. If you look at it casually, you might think it's a aseed stitch. but as you stretch it apart, it's full of webs and all kinds of hidden things.

Your description reminds me of something I've read about in some books... ohh, what was it called? It's like a rib but you only knit the knits and slip the purls or something... is that shaker rib??

Lemme google and be back...

Um, gee... A little Turtle told me....I owe you some pictures too......I have 4 of them ready to be blocked........The rolling in continues....

As an aside, while I was knitting one of these lovelies...I looked down and amazingly noted that the sweater I was wearing - that I bought YEARS ago is this same stitch pattern....Ok I see my camera and am taking it down to take pictures now!!!

Pamela,

This probably isn't what you are looking for, but there is a row of K2tog and K1P1 in this stitch pattern.

I just did a couple of short repeats using mystery yarn and the kids' plastic 10 needles that were handy, the fabric is pretty dense but stretchy though.
