So, when do you find/make time to knit?

I have a full time job outside of the house and an active toddler, so I try to knit in the evenings and I TRY to get up early in the morning before work to knit. I get most of my knitting done on the weekends.

I know my situation isn't unique so I was curious as to when all of you knit. :fluffy :D

I work a full time job in the home, plus three children. I am known to take knitting in with me into the bathroom when the kids are taking their baths, when my computer is booting up, when I am researching for my job and our site is taking too long to load, when we drive ANYwhere that I am not actually driving (like our trip to the ILs this weekend... I will knit all the way there and all the way back, when I am not entertaining small people, that is), and during the evening when I have finished up/quit work for the day.

There is a 24 hour craft night at my church tonight, and I am crying that I am going to miss it due to our trip. I could get SO SO SO much done there.

Let's see... I am new to knitting but very obsessed with it....I knit in the car at stoplights, while I am watching the kids take a bath, after they go to bed (if I can get myself off of this computer), in the afternoons while they are happy playing, etc. We are going to visit my Dad this weekend so I will be able to get a lot done in the car and while we are there because I won't be able to get on the computer.

My best times to knit are when the kiddoes are off to sleep! Although I may sneek a bit of knitting in between as well...

This list applies to both crochet and knitting:

Whilst watching tv or movies at home (only having fuzbabies makes that easier, I know)

While on the way to or from Indy or Dayton, a 1.5 hour trip each way which we've been making quite a bit recently...

While listening to my DH talk in a foreign language (SysAdmin Speak, all about computers' innards)

While sitting in Starbucks so's my DH can get some peace and quiet time away from our fuzbabies to study

While on the plane or waiting for the plane to take me back to our natal land (CA) or to my brother and his fiancee (NY) - a wedding in the family always seems to increase travel far more than it ought

While listening to presentations at conferences, like the awesome doula conference in Cinci a couple months ago

Basically, anytime I'm sitting down not at the computer. :)

I'm a SAHM so my day is a little less structured than someone who works. But I knit first thing when I get up every morning. I make my tea and sit on the couch and watch GMA while I wake up and get oriented for the day. Then I take breaks and knit during the day. It's my "reward" for doing things I don't like to do (like cleaning). I take my knitting with me when I go to town, though I don't always have a chance to work on it. Then in the evening when I sit and relax and drink a beer with dh, I knit some more. Knitting helps me to relax. If I'm working on a projectand I get stuck, I knit for a while and then I get new ideas and go back to the project. I knit during movies and any tv shows that we watch. I also knit while I listen to dh talk about his day - I listen so much better when I knit, if you KWIM.

Pretty much only when the kids are asleep. So just an hour or two in the evenings, and a few hours on the weekends (I woh full-time). Also if we take a long road-trip, I make dh drive so I can knit in the car. Sometimes when we go to the park, I carry my knitting around in a little purse on the off-chance that the kids will play by themselves in the sandbox or something, but that's pretty rare.

I'm a SAHM too, so I get little snippets done here and there all day long. If I am the first to get up, I'll grab my shower real quick and if I am still the only one up I'll knit and have a cuppa tea. We don't do cable (except for internet) but we do watch movies or kid shows some and I knit during these. I knit after Brayden is in bed and if he's cool with it, while I'm sitting with him while he falls asleep. (We usually hold hands while he's going to sleep.) I also take my knitting everywhere we go...library, park, playgroup, lunchbunch, etc. Don't always get to it, but it's always there :LOL

Only when babies are bahaving or sleeping - which they rarely do in sync. And then only after I've showered or cleaned. Not too much these days. :(

I have been knitting a longggg time and it is part of my life. Much better now that I am retired!
Watch for my eBay store opening soon!

I only have one kiddo which helps. I knit while he is sleeping, or playing on his own. I get more knitting done when dandelions2 is over with her two kiddos, as her dd and my ds keep each other occupied and rarely ask for our attention. Things are a bit trickier for dande as her ds is in a pretty demanding stage right now (not quite mobile enough yet). :)

I'm a sahm too and I can usually knit a bit during the day but the majority of it is done at night after everyone is in bed... I usually get about 2-3 hrs a night in before I start to get too tired to knit.

We don't travel much but I always take knitting in the car w/ me when dh drives.

Here's my :secret:, or serious problem depending on how you see it  I have a spot on sofa, wireless laptop sits up beside me. I type one handed, so lots of reading/short posts.

For nusing, th Boppy is in my lap, baby on Boppy, knitting in front. I have yo be in like the body of something and don't do it for long times, but every little bit helps. ;)

I can't wait till my kiddos are big enough to nurse unsupported on the boppy! Their little heads are still to small to sit on the boppy & make it to the boobie. :( But when they are, I'll get tons of knitting done!

It won't be long!!! James was born on the 7th of April... and it's a pretty new thing for him and he was a good sized baby at birth 7lb8oz.

:) Can you believe how fast they are growing up!! :inlove:

Yeah, I have mixed feelings about his mobility - want him moving about so he'll be more preoccupied...but on the other hand, he has no fear and that scares me. :faint

As for now, I get time for crocheting/knitting if he's sleeping and that's pretty much about it.

How do they get so big so quickly? My girls have more than doubled their birth weight - they're 11 lbs each!

Kylie is now too *big* for me to knit while she nurses. She squirms all over and grabs the yarn :LOL

I have recently discovered I get more done when I have more than one pair of pants going at a time (I am always doing business knitting). I like to have one pair in the body stage and one pair in the legs stage. If Kylie is especially needy I can knit on the "body" pair because its easier to pick up and put down. At night I work on my "legs" pair. I use ML and its just too much to keep straight when I have a lot of distractions.

I love knitting on car trips when both kids are stuck in car seats. I get so much done that way.

I also work outside the home, have two kids, and a consulting business, so knitting time is very precious. As previously mentioned, I knit in the car at red lights. I knit when the kids are napping and when they've gone to bed for the night. I keep my knitting handy and sneak in a row or two while I'm waiting for the pasta to cook or while I'm on the phone, that sort of thing. Never enough time, though!

I love my job outside the home (I'm a teacher), but one day last year I remember sitting at my desk and thinking, "This job is really cutting into my knitting time." :LOL

I'm a SAHM, but I teach piano lessons and am taking two correspondence classes (don't know why, really -- I have a bachelor's in elementary education already. But medical billing/coding sounded fun, and I've always enjoy writing, so the other class is writing for children.)... anyways... I knit whenever I can get a few stitches done! When the kids are napping, or playing happily... when we're at my mom's and someone else is playing with the kids... in the car (when DH is driving)... when we're watching TV or a movie... and ALWAYS after the kids go to bed at night!! :)

I knit when DH is roping (and I get good wife credit for being there). If I'm being good, I reward myself (1 cable repeat for each chore I complete). If I'm being naughty I knit INSTEAD of doing housework. (I've almost got a front panel done for Kacie's sweater, but there aren't any clean dishes or clothes)

I'd really love to knit during church, but I doubt I could get away with it.

I knit in the car (at stop lights, etc. as the driver) or continuously as a passenger, while helping ds with his schoolwork, while giving the boys their bath, and definitely during sleep times! I alsd knit when dh is home alot. I still feel like I never have enough time to knit though! ;)

Oh geez, I didn't realize how old this thread was and I saw Katie's post that her girls doubled their birth weight to 11 lbs each and got really worried, wondering why they were still so small after over a year. Phew!

I knit in the car (haven't mastered the red light knitting, so just as a passenger), while at playgroups, and after my son goes to bed. I watch my Tivo'd shows and knit late at night :)

I didn't realize this thread was so old either. I got to Katie's post about the girlies not nursing unsupported yet and had to check the date, lol!

I knit a lot while the kids are playing in the yard. I knit 3/4 of a hat in one sitting while they played happily in the back yard yesterday :) I also knit while reading stories to the kiddos on the couch, while nursing Holden on the couch, and I take my knitting everywhere I go, so that if I have an extra minute or two I pull it out and get a little more done. I am off to a Mother's Night Out in a few hours (my first outing without Holden ever - I have such mixed feelings on this!!) and am bringing my knitting with me. I figure I will knit in between sips o fmy margarita!

Most of my knitting is done after everyone else in the house is asleep. DH goes to bed really early (he gets up at 4) so I get Court in bed, then Ellie and I climb in bed and she nurses to sleep. I then roll over and grab my project and knit/watch late night tv for a few hours.

I do get lots done on weekends, when dh is home to keep Ellie busy, as she is hating me knitting right now :( I also knit in the car, while the girls play outside, while they are in the bath, etc.

I wish I could figure out a way to knit while working out. I'm spending a ton of time at the gym to rehab my knee and try to get my body back. I suppose I could knit on the bike, but I wonder what kinds of looks that would bring?

At night when the kids go to bed and sometimes in the morning when my husband is home. I also get to do it during the day when one is napping and one is at school. You would think with all of this "time" I would be more productive, ha ha!

Yeah, this thread is almost like ancient history. The girls are now 22 & 23 pounds apiece....and sadly no longer nursing at all. :cry They stopped about 3 months into the pregnancy of their own accord (but on the upside, it did allow me to gain weight, which I had not done until they weaned.)

Now the girlies nap pretty well so I knit while they nap and then after they go to bed at night. For the most part during the day I'm watching them, cleaning the house, attending to laundry and now packing for the move.

I've gotten much faster at knitting, though. So I'm able to get a lot more done in a limited amount of time.:)

I am a SAHM and I knit "easy" things at the kitchen counter while my son is playing play-doh or painting. I usually knit all evening after my son goes to bed. I don't really like a lot of TV shows so I knit while dh watches TV.

I'm really torn over nursing Peter to the end of this pregnancy. I'm not too excited about the thought of tandem nursing, but I really rely on nursing as a means of comfort. I'm nearly 15 weeks now and my milk supply seems fine, so I wonder if it'll stay until the end. I'm sort of hoping it goes away and Peter loses interest on his own. I don't think I'd want to "dry nurse" unless he got really hurt or something. But then will he get up at 6am instead of 9? Dilemmas, dilemmas.

I'm glad your girls have doubled their weight again in the meantime!

I decided that I would let the girls dictate when they were ready to quit nursing. Emma started night weaning herself when she moved to her own crib at around 9 months. Before that, we were all in our king sized bed together. She stopped sleeping well in our bed, and slept much better on her own. Her night nursing went down to 2-3 sessions almost immediately and after about 2 1/2 months she was sleeping through the night without nursing at all. Grace was still in our bed, and nursing like crazy. She did get moved to a Pack N Play beside our bed at about 10 months when she wouldn't sleep unless attached to a breast. That was just too much for me to handle. I wanted her to nurse but not to NEED the breast in order to sleep well. I was still up 2-3 times per night and nursing Emma in her own room and just wasn't getting enough sleep with Grace's perpetual nursing.

At about 9 months, the girls were nursing less during the day and starting to eat solids more regularly. This was also by their choice. Emma had her first food at about 5 months - she decided that Nick's pizza was too good to pass up and took a bite!

About a month into this pregnancy Grace started biting me when she would nurse. At first it was infrequent but by 2 1/2 months, she was only biting. I couldn't handle it, so I did stop nursing her. I figured if she was so upset by the change in my milk that she resorted to biting, then she didn't need to nurse anymore. Plus by this time, the thought of tandem nursing three kids was absolutely overwhelming to me. (I'm sure related to the change in pregnancy hormones.) Emma was rarely nursing and Grace was certainly not nursing that often, so looking back this probably wasn't a rational fear, but never the less I did stop nursing Grace before bed. We eased the transition by offering them drinkable yogurt in sippy cups at night. They still take a cup to bed with them, now. It helps them sleep through the night, as otherwise they do wake up hungry in the night. They sleep from about 7:30pm to 6:30 am each night.

I am looking forward to being able to nurse Xavier for a bit longer if he likes. I don't want him to be dependant upon nursing to sleep at night, but I also think that starting weaning around 9 months is a little early. I will however let him take the lead on this too.

I have a part-time job (two days a week), which is half telecommuting, half going to the office, plus three kiddos, so time is always short for knitting. I got much more knitting done when Carson still nursed (she would nurse for 45 min to an hour). I could support her head on my arm, and still use it for knitting somehow!

Now, I pretty much knit at night, or in the car, although I always seem to make a mistake if I try it at red lights. Soccer practice is a good time to knit, too. I would love to knit at church, as I know I could pay attention with no problem, but I'm sadly afraid of how it would "appear".

I can do some machine knitting in the mornings when Rowan is entertaining herself if I do it early. Sometimes I do hand knitting while she plays or watches tv but she usually makes it her business to stop me.

Embroidery is almost always done late at night, with the occasional nap time session. It's most definitely NOT a toddler friendly activity.
DD is in school a couple of mornings a week now so I'm hoping to have that time for embroidery soon. Ya know, as soon as I get the place cleaned up ;)

My secret weapon - Mcdonalds play ground. :bag We have one around the corner from my house with the playground in a large room so I can take some work and watch her play while I knit. Remember the Wisteria soaker? it was sponsored almost entirely by McDonalds lol We stop by every couple of weeks when I am sure I have some knitting ready to go!
I don't have much luck at the park so I stopped taking it.

I do legholes or trim on 2 circs. I have 2 sets so I can work each leg at the same time, switching back and forth so if I have to stop and start I won't have any gauge issues. My 2 am gauge is quite different from my 2 pm gauge. lol

I do the bathtime thing some too.

That's pretty much the story around here. I WOH, so I take my knitting for my lunch hour, and I can get a lot done that way. I did knit in morning traffic when it's stopped, but I changed my arrive-to-work time to much earlier so I miss the traffic to save on gas and irritation.

When I get home in the evenings, I get a head start on dinner (else we don't eat!) and dh picks up dd and they get home pretty soon after. So I try to knit a little after dinner when dd is playing with her blocks or books or something. I can knit during bathtime. I'd love to knit after she goes to bed, but she refuses to go to bed without me. Since I have to put her to sleep in a totally dark, quiet room, I usually end up falling asleep, too. :p

I guess I get most of my knitting done on the weekends during her nap.

My 8yo has 2 hour football practice everyday so I try to knit then as long as the baby is playing on the blanket. She often gets demanding tho.

I try to knit a little on the weekends & in the evenings but with my hectic schedule I don't get much knit time. Thank goodness its only a hobby :)
