Anyone wanna throw some fun, girly names into my empty hat?? The only name I'm still sorta okay with is the name I picked when pg with #1. Arianna Celeste. I want something feminine, semi-unique (not something that people will think is a weird village in africa or anything) and not overused. Like, I love Olivia but won't use it b/c so many others have.

I'm fond of Poppy, and Ivy. Those two were on my list before we chose Chloe, but dh didn't like them. DD #1 was almost Ivy Elizabeth. ;)

I love Celeste, that's pretty. I asked my midwives when I had Levi (8 months ago, wah!) what everyone was naming their babies, and for girls they said, Arianna, Alanna, Elianna, Ariella, etc...so at least in Oregon that may be the next up and coming name if you don't want a popular name. I'll see if I still have my 2 page list for possible girl names :brow

Just for kicks, they said the boys names were Kayden, Jayden, Raiden, everything-den.

Oh man... That's a bummer. :LOL So, no Arianna.

I have an Arianna. I love it!! My mother in law named her. My mother in law is Chaldean and was born in Iraq. The name is actually of Afghanistanian descent, I think. I had such a hard time trying to pick a name that when she was born, we just let her name her first granddaughter.

I also love my mom in laws name. It is Saadia. Sounds like Sidia. I also love Celeste. My current fav girls name is Charlotte.

Phoebe (she was *this close* to being Phoebe Lynn or Phoebe Jane)
Abigail
Mallory
Olivia (but we gave up on it for the overused factor too)

and there were others I can't think of right now. :emb

For this last baby, our final girl choice was Niah Grace. I absolutely fell in love with the name "Niah", but now that we have a "Noah", we'll never be aable to use it *lol*

I also like Eva, but DH didn't. Ethan would have been Isabella Grace if he were a girl.

I love the name Audrey. Our first daughter (should we have one ;) ) will be named Stephanie Irene (family names). If I can convince my dh to have more kids once we have a daughter and we are blessed with another, I would like to name the second daughter Audrey. Kevin's cousin has a daughter named Audrey, and so he will probably balk at the name, but it isn't like we see them that often.

I also like Sarah, but that is a pretty popular name right now.

Here is a list of names to avoid (at least the top 15 or 20): http://www.babycenter.com/babyname/names2004.html

The two girl's names we had picked out before Nicole was born were Samantha Nicole and Kayleigh Nicole. But when I saw her, she definitely did not look like a Samantha to us. DH and I couldn't agree on how to spell Kayleigh, so we wound up with Nicole Elizabeth (which is what I really wanted all along :brow )

I'll see if I can find our list of girl's names for you.

we named maya when we weren't living in the US and i had to fight to convince my husband it was actually a name! heh. now it's number 38.

for what it's worth, he grew up one of a billion "Marco"s in his neighborhood and says he loves having a common name because he feels an instant friendship with any other Marco he meets.

so maybe a common name isn't such a bad thing...

says the girl who grew up with the name Marnie - I was over 30 years old before i met another one. my last name is a far more common first name so i'm CONSTANTLY saying, yes, that IS my first name... which is why i personally could never name a kid bailey or riley or kennedy or anything else commonly used as a last name. it's been a HUGE pain in the neck for me, and even my university diploma is backwards.

i've always kind of liked my first name, though. i think it suits me. so there's my suggestion :)

names we had on our list for maya:

mara
simona
nina
lucia

we didn't do a middle name at all because my husband (and consequently my kid's) last name is 11 letters and 4 syllables.

Well, since I am done with babies and grandbabies are a LONG way off.....
My Ds would have been named Klarissa (dont' know what happened to that name by the time our #3 child arrived) I wanted to call her Klare.

I also like Elizabeth Ann or Ann Eliziabeth...Either of which I would have uses Annabeth for (Um, just an aside but the only Annabeth I know is Annabeth Gish and I met her when she was 8! I thought that name was so cool....And since she hasn't had a real acting "break out" yet the name is probably still not used a lot)

I like Audrey too....

My sister is Elizabeth Ann!

I found my list, and my top names are all mentioned by you guys! I always think I'm so original, but of course I only know these names because someone else has them!

Violet (was to be Levi's name if he were to be a girl)
Charlotte (after dh's aunt)
Ruth (after dh's great grandma)
Margaret (dh liked it)
Phoebe (dh liked it)
Poppy (after my Grandpa)

These are the English names. We would give them separate Hebrew names, which are what we call our kids by at home. I'm sure you don't want to hear my Hebrew name list, LOL!

Julia- I do know a couple of Averys here on the west coast, but they are boys. I always think of it as a feminine pretty name. :)

I wanted Iona, it's a scottish island where my great aunt used to live and also used to be the name of my great grandmothers house but dh didn't like it.

We spent my whole pregnancy arguing over the names Poppy May and Millie Rose, dh argued for Poppy May but when she was born he called her Millie Rose, or Lily Rose (we both agreed of course but I was too happy with her to care much which name he chose lol) (can you tell I like flower names?)

I really wanted welsh names for her as dh is welsh my favourites were:

Rhiannon,
Anwyn,
Arwyn,
Gwyneth,
Gwendoline,
Megan,
Arianrhod,
the list goes on but I can't remember now, unfortunately dh didn't agree to any of them because he'd 'been with' too many girls with those names or they reminded him of girls he'd known lol. Maybe I'll be able to wear him down by the next girl.

I like Audra, rather than Audrey (Audrey is a bit of an old lady name here)

Ruth's last post just reminded me of my boss who was due 8 weeks after I was due with my first.

She was naming her dd after a horse she had when she was younger...Sage. This was before Sage became wildly popular too. (She is 7 1/2)

My co-workers kept asking me if I was going to name my baby RoseMary or Parsley or Thyme!! Rosemary was their favorite! (See last name and then chuckle!)

Dh and I loved a lot of names that just plain didn't sound right with an Irish last name....
Cosette (Les Mes inspired)- which I shot down b/c I said everyone would call her Cozy!
Ebonine - which is pretty but again - see last name.

NOt to mention that we had to compete with the other 20 some grandchildren. When friends suggested names 9 times out of 10 it was one someone in the family already had. (12 kids and 34 grandchildren at present--- 3 great grandchildren with a 4th on the way.)

Hmmm... Davis?

Yeah, everyone on my floor in the building I worked in unanimously voted that our son's name should be Anthony...I really like the name Anthony, but knew he would end up Tony Pezzoni. Cute when he's a kid, but he has to live with that name, yk? :LOL

mommomrebecca
01-03-2005, 04:54 PM
Yep, Davis. Well, actually it's Lacquovitz, but everyone just *goes by* Davis. It's all very sketchy. Davis is dh's Grandpa's first name who is still alive. He calls himself Dave Davis. Sorry for the boring family drama...

Davina, I'll get out my list of Hebrew names after nap. I know there are some pretty girl names. :)

I found our multiple lists of names. Here are the ones we considered (some on this list were vetoed by either me or DH). Most are pretty traditional but there are a few lesser used names on the list.

Samantha
Kayleigh
Jessica
Jaime
Alayna
Cassie/Cassidy
Shannon
Ciara
Keira
Amy
Bethany
Alanna
Alicia
Kayla
Hayley
Brianna
Alyssa
Lyndsay
Julianne
Cierra
Skyler
Tristen
Melanie
Marissa
Cynthia
Colleen
Melody (not my favorite as I knew someone by that name)
Melissa
Kelly

Both DH and I really wanted a traditional Irish name since we have an Irish last name and we both love Ireland so much (we went there on our honeymoon - it was the best trip I could have ever asked for). But we just couldn't decide on one that be both loved.

I know you'll find a name you'll fall in love with :love

Our first daughter (should we have one ;) ) will be named Stephanie Irene (family names).

Our family middle name is Irene:
Anwyn Irene - dd
Michelle Irene - me
Susan Irene - mom
Virginia Irene - g-mom
Elsie Irene - g-g-mom

and so it goes... ;)

Dh and I didn't care for any girl names until we came upon Anwyn. The name sounds musical, esp w/ Irene and our last name.

I've seen lots of names that I like, but nothing is clicking, KWIM???
I like
Sophia, Sophie But our last name is swan and sophia celeste swan is a tongue twister. :LOL
Anwyn, but dh doesn't
Elowen, but the "n" on the end with swan is too much for me... I'm a tad nitpicky.
Violet
Vivian
Lillian, Lily, Lillianna
Rosemary, rosemarie
Fiona
Iselyn
Avery
Aubrianna
Cadence(but dh played drums in h.s. and vetoed this one quickly)
I also like Jocelyn but BIL and dh said a big NO b/c she would get jokes about balls jostlin'?? I have never heard a guy, before that point, say the word jostlin' but whatever
Annabel, although it reminds me of a cow

Cadence is my oldest's name. WE picked it right out of the book b/c it fit her prenatal personality...Marching in there...
It is a name not without it's hazards...
At her first soccer practice the coach did what so many do...called her Candice...My sweet little, then 6 year old said...."My name is really Cadence, but if you want you can call me Candice." And he never did again.

It just makes me mad when I got to the doctor's office and the nurses can't be bothered to read it correctly...Of course one day I had to look at her folder b/c they called her CONSTANCE?????????? That was a new one...If you think doctor's have bad handwriting! It really did look more like Constance than Cadence.

:LOL Yeah... I know all about name "hazards". Try Davina on Okie substitute teachers. I can't believe they could come up with so many ways to pronounce such a simple name. :chin Then, try meeting someone then bumping into them a couple weeks later and see what they come up with as your name. I had one guy call me Bathsheba... He really remembered that as my name. :LOL

Another name I like is Amaris (am-uh-riss)

mommomrebecca
01-04-2005, 09:19 AM
Oh Davina, pick Amaris! That's great!

Here is my little girl Hebrew list

Eilona (my Eleanor's name) means oak tree
Shoshanna means rose
Hava means life
Salome (pronounced sol-uh-may was going to be Levi's middle name) means peace
Zahar means daybreak
Rena (pronounced rayna) means joyous song
Moselle means taken from water (we have waterbirths so I thought that suited)
Amissa means friend

Bathsheba:lol:

I was going to post this before I even read this page...our first baby girl's name is Hope Amara.

Amara means eternally beautiful.

I loved this name, and it was going to be her first name. It's easily pronouncable, not common, but not too out there. When we lost her so early (the pregnancy was ectopic) we decided to make Hope her first name; it seemed to fit even though we had never considered it before.

We've been told we have strange taste in names. I want to have twin boys who shall be named: Ethan Michael and Benedict Xavier. (Secretly really wanting Xavier to be his first name, but very afraid he will live his life correcting people who can't figure it out.) And trying to figure out a cool name with Orion- dh's middle name....

Oh, and here are the other girls names we like:

Cassandra Therese
Rose Elise
(But they rhyme and I don't think I could ever give my kids rhyming names...)

My BIL used to tease my sister b/c when she was pg with #1 she wanted what he called "soap opera" names.....Fiona was one of the names on her list- one of the actresses on General Hosp. is Fiona....

Funny but her kids ended up being
Mikayla (they orginally had the Michaela spelling but decided it would be too difficult for people to get)
Robert (which has always been my fav. boy name)
And last...
Brooklyn (With her middle name of LEE my brother jokes that she sounds like someone in a martial arts movie-- he calls her Grasshopper.)
