Who is with me??? I know Jess is getting some special yarn for this (http://woolywonder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=33641&highlight=#33641), and I plan on buying some!! For now I am going to get started with this:

http://woolywonder.com/lookie/yarn/mp.jpg

http://woolywonder.com/lookie/yarn/mpwound.jpg

Here's the pattern. Clapotis Pattern at Knitty.com (http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall04/PATTclapotis.html)

It is silk/wool blend Schaefer Yarn (http://www.schaeferyarn.com/helenesample.htm), Helena, in the Memorable Women color concept "Mary Pickford." Those are some marketing geniuses over at Schaefer.

So, I'll plan to knit a second one with the fab stuff Jess comes up with. I think Theresa might have mentioned having something suitable as well, but it isn't in her store yet?? From Henry's Attic?? Aphrodite? Andromeda? Some goddess name?? Ok, twist my arm, I'll make three.

Oh man, I need to do this...I am on my fourth shaker ribbed scarf and sick to death of it....BUT I absolutely cannot buy more yarn until this stash game is over with.If I get out of negative points there I will be lucky.....

Wonder if my LYS has something suitable? They are back to 25% off on Thurs...I hear some Outback just calling my name for the first Thurs. in the new year...I may just have to sneak over on Saturday ---just to look!!!

I would love to do this... but I'll need to find some yarn. Would Silk Garden work for this?

Many people use silk garden.
Got this message today:

Here’s another Clapotis in Silk Garden. http://www.pappergank.com/ms/blacksheep/index.php?p=142 This one took 7.5 skeins.

The ones on the poem page are silk garden, I believe

OH! I should have seen this post earlier! I am about 1/3 on the way on a sort of clapotis, following the pattern but with a MUCH thicker gauge roving (it had to match a hat). It is a LOT of fun though! I think I'll make another one for myself later in the right gauge.

Pam I went to my LYS today and alas, no Lion & Lamb. Some nice Shepherd Worsted but it's the Superwash (and Shepherd Sock but that's for another day, right? :D ). I was under the impression that Mountain Colors made a similar 50/50 blend but all I saw was merino worsted and mohair of those too. So I was totally 0 for 2 (well, until I hit the sale bin :brow). Sorry about that! Of course they can "special order" it, but I'm guessing just about any LYS with some sort of Lorna's Laces stock can do that for you.

So I'm still on the hunt for a suitable yarn to use, too. I might suck it up and actually do the L&L. Some of the colorways I saw today were outrageously pretty.

I think I'll be satisfied with my current find, plus whatever Jess has to offer. I dont want to make myself crazy ordering expensive yarn online without seeing the colors first. I like to fall in love with the colors, you know? I am sure that Jess will produce fab colors.

I am going to go fiddle with a sock pattern to slow myself down. Clapotis is already as long as my hand from wrist to tip of middle finger.

Do you think this would work for a Clapotis? http://www.uruwool.com/novelty.htm
I am about to order a bunch of it, but have no plans for it as of yet...If it will work, then I'd love to join in if its not too late :)

pamelamama
12-27-2004, 06:08 PM
I wonder if the dropped stitches will 'stick' on the buttons? It's a bit lighter than the worsted for Clapotis, but I thnk you maybe can swing it.

nevermind. LOL

12-28-2004, 09:26 AM
hey y'all, I can't remember if I actually posted to one of the threads about clapotis yarn or not, but the Henry's attic Andromeda is dead on for the lion and lamb. I can special order it, and dye ;) I don't have it up on the site cause I aven't gotten around to it, but if there's interst I'll add it so you can order. If enough people want it, I'll do a bulk discount, too ;)

averymybaby
12-28-2004, 09:28 AM
T - what's your price on that? Yardage? :)

littleturtlemama
12-28-2004, 09:48 AM
Sorry, had to pull my book out and then greg woke up, LOL!

Okay here the info on andromeda:
The andromeda comes in 3.5 ounce put up, so the same as the lorna's laces (whichihave to admit, I have my sneaking suspicions that the LL is the HA andromeda, LOL!) The yardage is approx. 205 yards per skein. Anyway, so you'd need 3 skeins, and they'll be $22 each (handpainting included). I posted on WW about them, and if enough of the mamas there want to order, I'll do a bulk discount of $3 off each skein (I'd probably need about 15 skeins ordered, so 5 mamas to order 3 each, to do the discount) So, if 5 (or more mamas) do this, the total for the yarn for clapotis would be $57. I'm not in any rush, cause I can special order anytime, so it's totally up to y'all when you want to do this or start your knitting. I'll set a close date that's good for you all, so just LMK what you prefer :)

averymybaby
12-28-2004, 09:50 AM
Oooo. Hmm. $57 handpainted for the project is a good deal, I must say. I'm in if the discount works out. Now you just need 4 more. :LOL

Shifra73

Between Theresa and Jess, we'll all be making several Clapotis ... one for me, one for my mom, one for my sis... yessssss... rubs hands together in glee.

T, I'll take four from you at your supah dupah discount. ;)

I've just finished and wanted to say....make 10 clapoti! These are FUN to do!!

What yarns did you use? I really want to do this one, but I think my budget won't go for the fancy smancy yarn...boo hoo.....Is there a nice substitute that is more fitting for a person who has "champagne taste on a beer budget"?

I guess I should have asked for LTK gift cert. rather than Michaels...Hey Theresa would you accept Michaels gift cards instead of paypal???????????????????????LOL!

littleturtlemama
12-29-2004, 09:45 AM
I don't think there is, cause it's a scarf, yk? I mean, it's not like it HAS to be a certain size, you can just finish when you run out of yarn. Anyway, the pattenr calls for 3 skeins fo teh lionand lamb, which is about 63 yards per ounce, and the andromeda is about 62.6 yards per ounce, so it's virtually identical :)

Yes, Pam, I *am* on vacation! :love

My awesome Dad brought his laptop and we have free wireless internet access at the hotel, so I can check my mail in the late evenings. :D

I wonder which of my relatives would love a Clapotis?

Theresa - did you get a page up?

Shifra73
12-29-2004, 12:14 PM
I don't know if there is really a danger of running out. I just read in a few blogs that people needed to modify the pattern and make it smaller because otherwise they wouldn't have had enough to finish. It probably varies by knitter, but I *hate* running out of yarn so I want to be safe!

littleturtlemama
12-29-2004, 01:14 PM

littleturtlemama
12-29-2004, 02:36 PM
yep, as long as it's nothing that wil be garish, LOL ;) I have a strigh no-ugly-colors policy on georgeous yarn like this ;)

Seriously, LOL, you can pick whatever you want! I was thinking that clapotis would be pretty for early spring in a leaf green and canteloupe colorway ;)

mhurst
12-29-2004, 02:44 PM
T-
Did you ever figure out how you made the colorway from the Angel I bought?

I would love some deep fall colors, deeper and more vibrant than the autumn harvest. Burgundy, deep greens, yellows, blues...vibrant but not quite jewel tones so it isn't garish.

Does that make any sense at all? :D

melissa, I did some experimenting, and dangit if I can't get tat to come out again. Besides, I think short repeats would look bad with clapotis, becuase they'l pool weird. But your colors sound divine, I'll try to come up with something purty ;)

Well, I only have 3 pairs of pants right now - all dark rinse jeans. :LOL And I rotate long-sleeved shirts on top, of many colors, but nothing too bright. :emb my post-baby wardrobe is severely lacking.
