After some thoughts that the skort look with the flap was too grown up, I came up with this new pattern where the skirt is all of the way around and ruffled and only is attached just above the legs of the shorts, not covering the whole body (less bulk). It took a heck of a lot of yarn lol for the ruffles but I love how it came out. It's a crappy photo but you get the idea. It is super soft blue face leicester wool and a cranberry red heart. So when do you think they would start selling? March?

Also, pricing is always tough. The BFL yarn I got cooped and the price with ship was $17... that was a deal and not a normal price I can get...

The shorts I make with Cascade, the pricing is $35 so there would be an added cost for the skirt over the top. I am guessing around $50 unembroidered... I made this one for a friend (who is buying it) and I haven't decided exactly what I am charging yet.

I did one that was a skirt with just a soaker between the legs and it wasn't so cute... so this is my pattern for now. It could be a short skirt or a knee length (added cost) or an ankle length (way more $$ LOL)

Opinions on price?
thanks girls :)

Oh DANIELLE!! That's phenomenal!!

How much work compared to say, Pants?

I dont think $50 is unreasonable for a luxury item.

I would say they took as long as pants in a med/smal which is what the shorts are. The skirt part alone took as long as the body.

I just tried it on my dd tho and am not liking it as much. I think I need to start the skirt a bit higher or the legs pull it in a bit. It's not her size tho, so that could be it. Off to knit another LOL

I think they are so cute and girly :love

I think $50 is completely reasonable. This is clearly an item that takes much more time to make than a traditional soaker or shorts.

Ditto on the $50. Lots more work! That is so cute, I was thinking of attaching the skirt at the waist and having it come out kind of like a skater's skirt. Love the ruffles and the heart on yours :)

:wowza I made one a while back. I attached the skirt at the waist. I knit a soaker for under the skirt. I made the skirt fuller with ruffles on the bottom. I knit all my stuff from the bottom up. It was alot of work and very heavy! Good luck!

Kim, what is a skater's skirt? I thought of attaching at the waist like my first skort but fully around but I was worried about bulk as I am a bulk-annoyed mama LOL I haven't tried it except on the front like the skort tho (another post in this forum) so it may not be so bulky after all. I am thinking I will need to attach the skirt about 1/4 of the way up from the crotch instead of just above it.

Renate, Nana dear :) how the heck do you knit from the bottom up! WTG mama! I have yet to knit a soaker *blush* so doing short legs underneath is my best yet LOL I am totally self-taught and still wet behind the ears ;)

:wowza I knit both legs on DPN separately, then combine both legs in the crotch area on a round needle, then knit to right before the waist, decrease some stitches, then knit the waistband. Just like you all knit from the waist down only in reverse! Make sense?

Danielle, my version of a skater's skirt is kind of a short skirt that has a little flare to it.

Renate, that is so cool, knitting from the bottom up...do you knit that way all the time, for all sweaters, too? I was looking at some sweater patterns and was struck by how many start at the bottom, when my instinct is to start at the top.

Kim very cool. Don't mind me, I just didn't know what a skater's skirt was :)

:wowza Kim, I knit nanapants, shorts and soakers from the bottom up. Some sweaters, knit in the round to the underarm, split for the front and back(for pullovers)then 3 needle bind of for the shoulders. I then pick up the stitches for the sleeves and dec as needed and knit the sleeves with DPN until length needed. No seams except the small hole under the arm! I also knit sweaters from the top down. I like no seams especially for the little ones-less bulk. I also knit hats in the round, mittens and socks. I don't mind DPN either! Must be bamboo though!
:knit :wool Now :knit socks for me!!!
