I've got a request to make a sort of "self-striping" soaker. Anybody want to share tips on how to do this?

TIA!

BTW, we need a "begging" emoticon!! LOL!

i was looking at Noro self-striping yarn. the colors are wonderful.

my questions are: how does the kitchener look? and if you make shorts, how does it look when the legs are different?

i knit in the round. i imagine it would look pretty goofy knitted flat in a self-striping yarn because the stripes wouldn't line up unless you got super lucky.

I made some self striping yarn, and to be honest, you might as well just change skeins while knitting. It isn't worth the effort to make your own, IMO. IT was a fun experiment but the KNOTS> oy.

I have not made my own, but I did these shorts: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4302449079&ssPageName= STRK:MESO:IT

The yarn was about 2/3 blue and 1/3 purple (looking at it as a hank... not wound in a ball... the top 2/3 was blue, the bottom purple). I don't know how they striped up, but they did!

Probably not much help, but thought I'd lyk :)

it's hard to predict what yarn will look like knit up. if you knit in the round and the waist band ends up knitting in stripes, sometimes the body won't. and if it's a soaker this pattern always disappears when you divide for the legs. then if you are doing pants or shorts, the legs knit up different then the body. if the customer wants definite stripes, use more than one skein of yarn and do stripes that way. it's the only way to get guaranteed stripes.

exactly nada. there is no guarantee you'll get stripes, UNLESS you make the stripes yourself.

very pretty :) soaker

 I didn't dye that yarn, I knit it. It was sent to me from a customer who bought it from baa baa bottoms. But thanks anyway for the great compliments. :)

I will be dyeing the yarn this weekend. I hope it turns out stripey, I think I have figured out how to get it to stripe somewhat...

Thanks for the tips!
