I just learned about this the other day. What I'm talking about is when you knit/purl into the back of stitches in order to twist them when doing your ribbing. You do this on some (i.e. knit sts but not purl sts) or all of the stithces. Anyone tried this on a soaker? According to Knitting Without Tears it is more elastic. What does that mean? It springs back to it's original shape quicker or it stretches further? Supposedly it makes the ribbing tighter, which could be good if you were using ribbing in the crotch and didn't want to compromise coverage. Any thoughts?

I don't like the look of it, but it does work fairly well. I think it makes the yarn look imbalanced, especially if your working with a woolen spun yarn (like mine, and bartlett's as well.)

You can twist any stitch by knitting intot he back of it, not just on ribbing. It makes the bottom of the "v" in stockinette look like it's been crossed.

I made a cabled ribbed soaker with this technique... very stretchy... very pretty! I wonder if I have a pic...

I did a mini-cable ribbing mention in Maggie Righetti's Knitting in Plain English for a pair of LTK longies.

It is a multiple of 3 stitches:
Row 1: p1, K the sencod st, K the first stitch
Row 2: k1, p2

It looks like little cables for the ribbing...hence the name. It is pretty stretchy and looks cool. :)

I did this for one of Xiney's soaker...I twisted the knit stitch. I personally do like how it looks. I can't say if it is more elastic or not because the yarn was very stretchy and it totally stretched out.

Oh yeah, I saw chaos_pie's and I thought it was cool.

The twisted stitch just looks a little raised. xoox
