I dyed some variegated red Fisherman's this morning that's begging to be made into a simple basketweave pattern soaker. Problem is, I don't have any books with basketweave stitch patterns! Does anyone have any good basic stitch pattern they can share real quick? Or a link to one?

Also, a few further questions about a basketweave pattern on a soaker... Do you think I can include short rows and still maintain the integrity of the stitch pattern? Should I make it more like tap pants vs. the traditional legs-on-the-side soaker so I don't have as many decreases messing up the flow of the pattern? I think it would be easier to do little tap pants, but if anyone else has tried a more traditional soaker shape it let me know.

do you mean like

row 1 (RS)knit
row 2 K5, *p3,k5; rep from*
row 3 P5, *k3,p5; rep from*
row 4 repeat row 2
row 5 knit
row 6 K1, *p3,k5 repeat from *, end last rep k1 instead of k5
row 7 P1, * k3, p5 repeat from *, end last rep p1 instead of p5
row 8 repeat row 6
repeat rows 1-8

cast on multiples of 8, plus 5

is this what you meant?

Yeah :D

Now I'm wondering if it would line up the round?

ETA are there any textured stitch patterns (triangles, diamonds, etc.) that will line up OK in the round or am I destined to knit a textured soaker in the flat? :getu

entrelac in the round?

i didn't know if you'd get a jog or not since you're knitting a spiral.

I did the first prototype wonderpants in basketweave. Do like, a k3p3 ribbing for a few rows, then swap the knits for purls. Cast on a multiple of six.

Entrelac doesn't make a spiral, you knit each square individually so you make a round, finish it and then start on the next round. Its just the crotch that is the brainbreaker. Soakers are easier than pants even.
