I have this great book on crochet patterns, not patterns like a sweater or a sock but patterns as in the most complex of stitches youve ever seen combined to make a distinct texture.

Is there such a book for knitting?? I had so much fun doing the modular knitted pants that I am ready to branch out into something more adventurous. It can even me on modular knitting...cannot find one that says [glow=orange:f45903eea6][shadow=darkred:f45903eea6][highlight=tomato:f45903eea6]BUY ME [/highlight:f45903eea6][/shadow:f45903eea6][/glow:f45903eea6]to me.

hey! cool emoticons! what the heck is this?! :fruitcake ah.....ok, fruitcake....we don't get those here.

I have a book called 99 Knit Stitches, publihed by Leisure Arts. It has all the basics plus many different cables, eyelets, etc. It doesn't have any modular type knitting in it but many of the stitches are really nice.

Here's a link to the book. I bought it here at chain craft store

Hey, I know this is an old thread but the very best knitting stitch compendiums (compendia?) are those done by Barbara Walker -- A Treasury of Knitting Patterns, A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns, Charted Knitting Designs, and Sampler Knitting. The last two have been reissued as the third and fourth treasuries of knitting patterns.

Not only do these books have thousands of great patterns, but the introductions to the chapters and to each patterns will teach you so much more about knitting stitches than you ever dreamed there was to know! I can't recommend them highly enough.

If you only buy one, buy the second treasury. Next I'd recommend the first treasury. The third one has some really cool designs; most of this book is patterns she made up where the first two are previously published designs that she collected. The fourth book is all mosaic knitting and is the least compelling of them to me; some people love this stuff, though.

Everyone who likes to fool around with different stitches should own these books!
