Sort of yes, and sort of no...
I unearthed my first knitting project from way back when. It is a bowler pattern I made from an online pattern....from way back when. I couldn't re-find the pattern but figured I could count stitches...but 'ah-ha' found the site again!

http://sepwww.stanford.edu/sep/jon/family/jos/toessel/hats/index.html

It's the bowler toessel. The one I have is a variation on the theme...

My basic toessel hat from brim up is:
8 ridges of garter stitch
8 rows of stockinette
6 ridges of garter stitch
10 rows garter (decreaseing for top)

the brim is then rolled and re rolled until it holds its shape (LOL). If you *really* want to know how many stitches around mine is (probably whatever the original called for) I can count them (lost count a couple times already LOL) and if you really, really want a picture let me know. I have to wait for my camera battery to charge or I"d do that now.

Thanks for asking for a pattern. I had lost track of these patterns for too long and have found a couple more I'd like to knit again!

I hope these helped a bit or were enough info for a childs bowler

Hrm, maybe a knit along based on one of these <-- Just thinking out loud

OMG! Did you read that toessel site? The guy died at age 25. It's so sad!
