View Full Version : Treliske Organic Co-op

abigailvr

I just thought we should start counting how many cones people want. If we get up to 50 we can do the co-op!

Hmm, I was going to make this a poll, but I'm not sure that would help, since you can only vote once, and if someone wants more than one cone that won't really help. So just reply here with how many 500g (a bit more than 1 lb) cones of Treliske Oragnic yarn you'd like through the co-op.

I'll take 1. :)

marnie

one, please (i assume we can choose our colors?)

what will the cost be?

abigailvr

I guess I shouldn't have assumed everyone was reading the other thread  (located here (http://woolywonder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=86&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start= 0)). Baabaasheeshee said she tried to arrange a co-op through them once before and the price was $35NZD ($23USD by my calculations) per cone.

FabriConnection
07-07-2004, 08:51 AM
She got better pricing than I did. Their retail is 80 NZD per cone, and they told me they could discount it if you order over 100 cones.

abigailvr
07-07-2004, 03:39 PM
Jess, according to their site (http://www.treliskeorganic.com/cgi-bin/organicshop/perlshop.pl?ACTION=ENTER&thispage=knittingyarns.ht ml&ORDER_ID=%21ORDERID%21) their retail is $39NZD for a 500gr cone. Were they requiring you to order 1kilo cones? Does such a thing exist?

Ancient Spinach
07-07-2004, 10:01 PM
I'd be interested in 1 cone. What weight is it btw?? And natural color, I assume??

FabriConnection
07-08-2004, 07:32 PM
Musta been it, 1 kilo cones ;) not 500 gram cones.

FabriConnection
07-08-2004, 07:33 PM
From the e-amil from them way back when I first contacted them

"I haven't done a meterage test sorry -- but if you are wanting quantity, maybe 1 kilo cones would suit better. A kilo cone is NZD$80 plus freight which is more economical than skeins.
For orders over 100 kilos we can quote a discounted price."

They don't even know how many meters approx. are on each cone

But the samples I got were lovely ;)

Arwyn
07-08-2004, 08:55 PM
I could only do one (1kilo cone) at this time - but I would love one! Or a couple of the 500g cones. (Anyone knows if it dyes well?)

pmcgary
07-08-2004, 09:24 PM
Isn't a kilo 1000 grams?

If it is $80 NZD and a 500 gram is $39 um is there a reason why we would do the kilo ----other than getting a better discount on multiples. (though a hundred is a lot.) :?:

FabriConnection
07-08-2004, 10:16 PM

doesn't make much sense does it  ...unless we could get to 100 cones and it's a super good discount

all this metric talk giving me a headache.

Remember when the US thought it would convert to the metric system? I would be living testament to that failure.... I can't figure it out to save my life!!!

mhurst

Yep 1 kg = 1000 grams

I am a chemist IRL so in my opinion the metric system rules! :bag

Of couse I do a lot of converting in my head, I think in metric for distance, but I think in pounds and fahrenheit and convert to kg and Celsius.

Ok TMI, but I've had a ton of coffee and my mind is racing... :inthecup :inthecup :inthecup

Oh, I meant to add that I am also interested in 1 cone.

I don't really neeeeeedddddddddd more yarn, but I waaaannnnnttttttt more yarn

again it is the coffee talking :inthecup

Arwyn

Metric is SO EASY - but it just depends on what you're used to. Once you know what the prefixes mean (kilo is a thousand, centi is a hundred - unless we're talking computers! :irked  ), the ratio of one amount to another (2 500g = 1kg) is SUPER simple - it's all in base ten!

BUT - not many of us Americans have experience with the metric base amounts. As in, I really don't have much idea how much a kilo actually IS, what it feels like in my hand.

So in theory, it's metric all the way - but in practice, it's whatever we've been working with our whole lives!

abigailvr

I have no idea about choosing the colors. I would hope so!

It looks like we only have about 5 people interested in one cone each right now, though.

I was about to order more of this wonderful yarn. Is the co-op still on? I would like to buy 2 cones. My email is mmoon@mind.net

abigailvr

I'm not sure if it's happening. It doesn't sound to me like there is enough interest to get 50 cones.

Sheena
07-29-2004, 07:18 PM
How much would it end up being?

abigailvr
07-29-2004, 10:28 PM
How much would it end up being? If we got the price baabaaseeshee was quoted earlier, it'd be $23 per 1kg cone. I don't think we're going to be able to get enough people to do it, though. We'd need 50 cones.

Sheena
07-30-2004, 07:27 AM
We need 50 cones and we only have 5 or 6 people interested? :(

Have we cross posted anywhere else?

how do you like it compared to the Full Belly sutff?

MosaicMoonMama
07-30-2004, 11:12 PM
Compared to Full Belly--it's much softer (the softest I have felt) a bit thinner, a lot more pilly, and less sturdy. Dyes perfectly too--the FB dyes nicely, but not quite as nicely as this stuff. So, I really like both of them, and for different reasons!

I am interested but would need to nail down $ to determine how much I could go for.
Also, I'm in Canada, shouldn't be a problem to ship up here but just making sure so it's incorporated in the $.

Are we able to order diferent weights/colours and still get the discount?

Thanks

Karen from the woolsoaker email group answered a question we had about the weight and ply of this wool:

(Thanks Karen!) :mwah

I can answer this one - it's what we (I'm in Australia) call 8 ply, which is
equivalent to your sport weight. I picked up some of this wool from a local
health shop a few months ago - cheaper than the standard wool available
everywhere else (are you jealous?). It's lovely and soft to work with, and I
made a soaker for my 3yo daughter and longies for my 1yo son with it (and
Nanna has just finished a second pair of longies). If you've seen their
website, I got the marle colour. My daughter's soaker is fantastic overnight
- I used Jenny's pattern, but ribbed the crotch. The only thing to watch is
that it's so soft it tends to felt a bit, even with hand washing. The
longies are quite pilled (not quite the right word - it's not little balls
of wool fibres, more sort of longish loosely tangled fibres) as my son is
still crawling, and the carpet seems to catch on the soft fibres.

I'm saving the second pair of longies until he's walking properly - he took
his first steps today! Hopefully they will fare a bit better.

abigailvr

I think this co-op is a not going to happen. I haven't heard back from them, I don't have time to pursue them, and we only had about 1/3 as many people interested as we needed.

I emailed them several months ago and they did say there normal wholesale was for 100 CONES not kilos, but because I was a new business and they wanted to help support me they would do 50 cones. the price if I remember correctly went down to $35 NZD a cone. The real savings was the shipping which I think was something like $6 or 7 NZD.
I don't have the emails anymore, sorry.
if we do this I would want a few cones too.

abigailvr
08-18-2004, 10:55 PM
Honestly, I never really wanted to be in charge of it, I just started this thread to see who was interested. I have too much on my plate already. If someone else (pollywog? baabaasheeshee?) wants to take over, that is JUUUUST fine with me. :)

"Hi Morweena,
I'm pleased to hear that Treliske Organic Merino has performed well for you.
I have had a look at your website and I'm impressed with what you offer.
Our yarns are already competitively priced online but I can offer you a
further 10% discount on an order of 60kgs or more. The price would be
NZD$70 per kg. You can choose a mix of shades if preferred.
Let me know if we can be of further help.

Doesn't sound very good--and 60kgs, isn't that 120 cones???

I am losing hope of getting this stuff much cheaper! I may just go ahead and order for the regular price again :irked

MosaicMoonMama
08-21-2004, 01:05 AM
That works out to $47 per (large) cone. I just paid $65 for mine including shipping. I wonder what shipping would be on $2,826.66 worth of wool

mamaofthreeboys
08-21-2004, 08:22 AM
OMGosh

Thanks so much for looking into it again Morwenna :)

You know it still isn't that bad of a deal for 1 cone(1 kg) including shipping for $65 (I'll assume that's USD not NZD?)

That equals less than $8 including shipping per 4 oz of yarn since 1 Kg equals 2.20 lbs

Of course shipping will depend on where you live but Morwenna you're not too far from us

I so want to order some but I am going to wait b/c we maybe moving in 1-2 weeks and I would be so sad if yarn got lost in the mail :pezfrog

Thanks!!

MosaicMoonMama

It is thinner than Fisherman's, I had to adjust my pattern--but just a little bit. You can use #8 needles but I like at least a #7 or #6 for a soaker body. I am knitting with some right now, in fact. . . :brow
