Hi :wave
I'm in Council Bluffs, in SW Iowa, right across the river from Omaha, NE.
I've lived here pretty much all my life, except for my one exciting year at the other side of the state, in Dubuque.
Nice to meet you!! :pink

Des Moines -right in the middle of it too!

I have twin girls, a husband and own Bungalow Buns.com. Also a part of KnittedsandFitteds.com

So where are good yarn stores around here? Especially Jennifer! I drive through Omaha several times a year on my way to the inlaws

Hi Katie,

I've only been to one LYS, String of Purls, on 87th and Pacific, in Countryside Village. It's not a very big place, but they do have tons of beautiful yarn, and the staff has always been so helpful and friendly. They have lots of magazines and books, and some beautiful finished projects as models. I think it is owned by Warren Buffet's daughter, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Personal Threads is another LYS, on 90th and Dodge, but I haven't been there. It got some not so favorable reviews on about.com, but I think the original owner has died, so maybe the service is better...sorry, is that really morbid??????? Personal Threads does have a website, but they don't have pictures of the yarn or patterns. They do seem to have some good sales, though!!

My BIL and his wife live in Des Moines, near Merle Hay. I love Des Moines, we always have a lot of fun when we go there!!
HTH,
Jennifer

I live between Lincoln and Omaha. String of Purls is great - you feel like Cinderella in a yarn store when you go there because they are so friendly and they have such neat stuff. They aren't a good source for wool for soakers or the like, though. They are in a more wealthy part of town and carry expensive yarns that are beautiful to look at but not in my price range, generally. I have gone to sit and knits there and everyone was really nice so I had a lot of fun.

As for Personal Threads, just don't take your toddler with you. It's Clutterville, though they have a lot of yarns that no one else in the area carries. I've been in and out once. Even if they do carry a yarn I want, I just order it online because it's too hard to find a time when I can go there without Ben and clutter just gives me a headache. They weren't unfriendly, but they weren't friendly anything like String of Purls either.
